Let me know what you think. This is something I would to see the Sabres at least try to do.

How about Dahlin, Pominville, Bogosion, Georges for #2 overall, Bean/Fleury, and a combination of Slavin, Pesce, and Hanifin? Obviously would never happen, but something interesting I guess.

Dahlin is completely untouchable, as is Eichel and Mittelstadt

I was thinking more like

O'Reilly and San Jose's 2019 1st (if San Jose resigns Kane)

Neither team does this IMO.

Buffalo needs a winger more than they need 3 high end centers. Svechnikov fits that bill as a potential elite winger to play with Eichel while Carolina finally gets that top line center and a 1st round pick

I don't think Carolina will move the #2 pick. Whether they take Zadina or Svechnikov they will be adding a really nice piece to there forward core which could give them the flexibility to maybe package Skinner with one of their many defensemen for a 1C like O'Reilly.

I'd do Skinner (if an extension is in place), Jake Bean, and a 2nd for ROR

That seems like a lot on Carolina's side. Then again, ROR is a center and Bean is definitely expendable so a trade like this wouldn't surprise me.

Ristolainen is literally the only legit RHD the Sabres have right now. And I don't mean top pairing righty either; I mean the only NHL-caliber RHD under contract or who's rights they current possess.

You might be right, but O'Reilly is one of the Sabres' key players, and he brings leadership, and can score, and he's a decent defensive player too. Carolina could use a 1st line centre, yes, but using 2nd overall might make the most sense, because they also need a right winger. Isn't Svechnikov a RW?

All I know is if I'm John Tavares, I'm taking a good, hard look at Carolina when it comes to where I want to play. $27 million in cap space, a severe need for a 1C, a good, young blue line, and the opportunity to play with Skinner and Svechnikov on the wing. The only red flag is their goaltending. But for me, Carolina seems like an excellent fit for Tavares.

A top six containing any combination of Skinner, Svechnikov, Aho, Lindholm, Rask, Teravainen, Williams, Staal, and now Tavares would be deadly. Couple that with their blue line in Slavin, Pesce, Hanifin, Faulk, Fleury, and Van Riemsdyk.
