Sabres if they wish to contend now

Created by: FryesLeapMaine
Team: 2018-19 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 29, 2018
Published: Apr. 29, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Better effort here this time buffalo fan. How did I do?

I specifically left cap room for the 3x Rfa in 2 seasons time. 15m should be enough for bridge deals.

Better goaltending and more scoring should erase two huge weaknesses. The defense also becomes more stabilized due to Guhle and Dahlin.

Give me what you got. If I failed i’ll Try again.

    4. 2019 2nd round pick (BUF)

    Ror = pick 10 or 12
Lehner is a good starter who is used to getting shelled with a poor squad in front of him. He moves it up to pick 6.
Bailey is an intrigueing Rw wh. Moves it up to pick 4.
The 2019 2nd is likely a top 40 prospect. That moves it up 2 slots.

you have to fix your lineup a little bit to have players in correct position. i would bet you could pay less to Montreal and get 3rd pick to have a stud LW where buffalo is a little weaker.

It’d get unrealistic with the amount of trades to use mtl. Lehner would have to go somewhere else.

I think a lw would help too, but svechnikov is better imo. I personally believe they are about even at Rw and lw honestly. Is Reinhart really going to be enough to carry Okposo to be more valuable a year fromnow compared to Nylander and Smith? I’m uncertain of that.... Nylander has high upside and every buf fan is raving about Smith.

Trading O'Reilly for #2 overall makes no sense for either Carolina or Buffalo in my opinion. Especially if Buffalo is going to pay Bozak 6 million when for 1.5 million more O'Reilly is 100 times better. Buffalo can get a much better more useful package for O'Reilly. I don't know if my argument is making sense, but the last thing Buffalo needs is to draft another forward in round 1. I would restructure the Carolina trade to get Hanifin for ROR or Bean and Skinner. Something to help Buff win now. I'll probably make a post about it.

That’s not happening. Hanifin is much better than ror imo same with bean and skinner. The whole point of the trade is to make Car compete now while buf rebuilds. That’s the general direction each should take.

Bean and Skinner for ROR makes a lot of sense and would be closest to fair, but the more I look at it the less sense it makes for Buffalo to move ROR when they'll need a 2C.

I think Hanifin is getting overrated a bit around here. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player with great potential, but there are a lot of holes in his defensive game still. He isn't trusted yet with tough matchups in Carolina, and he's still their #4 defenseman in TOI.
O'Reilly is a very good 2C and possibly an average 1C with decent linemates, he's a poor man's Bergeron. He gets an incredibly tough workload and all the important D zone faceoffs, which takes all sorts of pressure off of Eichel and the rest of the team. And he consistently puts up around 60 points with generally weak linemates. Dude's a workhorse, and he'd leave a gaping hole in the roster if we traded him.

Nylander is a natural RW and has just been used as LW under Smith because they are weeker on LW. cap friendly cant show full scope of players it be to much info, you just have to watch or already know lol. it also says Cliff pu is RW but he is a center and just happened to shift to a wing after a trade.

then he is half the player he could be and will always be shooting and playing on his offside. its how you screw up potential (hints his terrible numbers this year).
