Montreal Realistic?

Created by: FryesLeapMaine

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 30, 2018
Published: Apr. 30, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mtl trades #3 for #9 + #29. Mtl wants a c and Veleno should be on the board at #9. If he’s not it means Dobson is on the board and they’d go with him at #9 then akil Thomas at #29.

Byron shipped to Arizona for 2 modest picks because Ari wants to compete.

Patches and deslauriers for Ritchie and #21. Fits both teams needs imo if Anaheim wants one last chance with their core.

These rookies shown don’t necessisarily play year one, just showing their slot.

Lmk what’s wrong.

Just to get a point in here, I think Mtl trades Weber in one seasons time.

His actual salary becomes 6m for 3 years then 3m for one, then 1m for 3 years.

He’d be an incredible asset for a team like Arizona when his cap hit is 7m yet his actual salary is 1m.... so his age isn’t a huge detriment to his value because of the way his contract was structured and how he got his cash upfront.

Depends if they can find someone who wants to resign him. He didn’t have a good season, so it’s hard to predict who would extend him. I think the value given is a solid price for a one year rental.

I think you can do this without trading away the 3rd overall. That return is not worth it. Habs have only picked in the top 3 like twice in the last three decades. You don't pass that up. Zadina is worth more than the two players the other first rounders fetch.

I would also hold on to Byron, value to cap dollars ratio is incredible and you want more of that on your team rather than less.

Others have said Patches will fetch more, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were right; I expect him to go for much less than we're all expecting.

I think all three trades sell MTL players short. IMHO

Byron is hugely underrated. If he's only worth two 4ths, i'd rather just keep him. plus he's injured for 6 months so that will make moving him hard.

I think the 3rd OV is worth more than 9th and a late 1st rounder. Veleno for example has top 6 center potential and the late 1st is a toss up when it comes to landing a good player. 3rd OA is a roster player next year that can be a perennial 30 goal scorer (Potentially)

As for Pacioretty's deal. The players available with the pick will be what makes or break this trade. If one of the players MTL really likes is available, than maybe it works. But one thing for sure, take Deslauriers out. Habs not moving him in a trade like this. He had as many goals as Ritchie did last year and were all legit HIS goals and not lucky bounces. Plus he's a home town kid so I just don't see it. He's worth more to us than anything in trade.

You could be right about deslauriers wanting to be kept, but the team had too many lw.

If you think he’s better than Ritchie and has more upside I believe you’re being a bit of a homer, but if you’re suggesting the team wanted to end up with both players I can see where you’re coming from.

I can easily take him out of the trade and add Benn in a heartbeat. I thought that was adding more value though. They’d probably take patches for Ritchie and #21, it’s just your squad had too many skaters.

If you are really against the value maybe they’d offer to take Schlemko with patches if they had the cap.

Finally someone else who understands contract structure, I have to explain this to everyone who thinks Webers contract is the worst out there.

(A funny thing is at the time of the trade Weber will make $54 million over the next 10 years and subban makes $58 million over the next 6. Factor in a cap hit of about $1.2 less for Weber and the trade is a pretty big bargain just comparing contracts alone.)

Anyways, just because Webers contract is good doesn't mean the habs will trade him. He is still a top 10 D man in the league. The fact is they could get a lot for him if at anytime they felt like they need to do a real rebuild (although the core team is young so doesn't make much sense).

Trading #3 for #9 is a huge mistake.. yeah they need a center but Veleno wont help the team for a few years anyways and he doesn't have the upside that the other guys available at #3 do. If you want to trade down, do so with Detroit.. #3 for #6 and #27 (not finalized until vegas is done in playoffs). At #6 the habs could still get a top player like Tkacthuk, Wahlstrom, or Bouchard. (I think Wahlstrom will be just as good as Zadina.)

Really? I thought a a top 6c and top 4d would equal a 1st line lw to a team lacking quality depth. How has having a 1st line lw without solid centers gone so far?(patches). Seems like getting a fringe #1b center + a future #3 rhd would solve 2 needs. I mentioned that I think Weber is moved in a year and woo could play 3rd pair with Juulsen at 2nd pair.

You’d have to add in the value Weber brings back (1st++) to show this deal fully. I’ll make a 2020 thread incorporating the ideas Mtl fan have had.

Byron’s not going to get a 2nd imo. He’s not good enough for a top 50 or 60 player imo. Two 4ths give a solid chance at developing 3rd liner depth.

Patches is solid but after a down year and being a rental cripple his value imo. A sign and trade could be Mtl salvation, but if it’s a pure rental then Anaheim is a good fit if they want one last chance for the cup with Getzlaf, Perry and Kessler. They could just offer Ritchie + #21 for patches and call it even.

        Thank you for the response.

That’s actually a solid idea if there was a rumor of det wanting to move up.....

what if svechnikov was available?!?!? Would they by chance feel compelled to move up and collect them both? That’s a pretty deep epiphany scenario.

Carolina selecting Zadina and and Detroit wanting badly to get to #3 for svechnikov. Then Mtl ends up with wahlstrom at #6. Seems like everyone’s happy I think that’d be a good idea of a mock for you to make if you do armchairs.

Somebody posted this in one of my threads: https://www.broadstreethockey.com/2013/4/25/4262594/nhl-draft-pick-value-trading-up basically somebody did the research to come up with a general value for draft picks. It seems that this trade with Detroit is pretty much bang on for value.. and in a particularly deep draft year like this where I feel there isn't much of a difference between #3 and #6, it's for sure worth it for the habs. The only thing is, does Detroit want to do this? I hope they do.

I’ve seen that site before, but they did that study 4 years ago and took in lots of older trades. It doesn’t compute anymore or encapsulate current trades.

Detroit could/would want to do it for svechnikov to have both brothers. That’d be very interesting.

Don't see svechnikov falling, he has an edge over every other player after Dahlin in my opinion .. but surprises do happen.

I agree, but if it happened it’d be a pretty compelling storyline. Every major media outlet would highlight the story.

I personally think Zadina is very good as well so it’s not a no brainer imo. A 3 “star” draft to put it into words.

Carolina could trade out of #2 as well for someone needing a lw, so I’d never rule anything out. However I agree that svechnikov should probably be the 2nd player drafted.

Oh lord no. Never meant to say he was better or anything. Just that for 850K we have a guy suited for the 4th line that scores and is french to boot. Like I said worth more to us than other teams. But yeah if its Benn or Schlemko instead Im all for that.
