Initial Creation Date: Apr. 18, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Gives Montreal their top line centre, Ottawa their defenceman to replace Karlson. Buffalo gets pick 1 and 3 overall for their rebuild. ...They obviously pick Tkachuk. Flames get much needed help on the wing. This also puts Bennett on the wing with Frolik and Backlund to hopefully have the same success Tkachuk did.

I try to be objective. I do. I peg ror's value around 10oa. Fox is a wild card who might not sign, but 3oa is an overpay. I have suggested adding our 2nd, 32 oa in addition to ror for pick 3 and maybe a minor add. Montreal fans wont touch it. They want to charge collectors prices for yard sale assets.

Id rather have monahan than ror any day of the week. I hate trading doug but stones a good return. Still need to solve the goalie problem

I'm torn on all of this. The scoring depth is a lot better, and I don't think the values are far off, but I don't know that you can win with ROR as your 1C. The team with the worst 1C to win a Cup since the lockout was Anaheim in 07 with a young Getzlaf. IMO, Monahan is already borderline if he is good enough to be that guy, and ROR is a step down.

Good creativity on the idea, just don't think I could pull the trigger on it if I was the GM.

I see your point. It would be a lot easier to do if we signed Tavares!

If they find a way to sign Tavares, then I'd be fully on board, but I'd probably keep 3OA and draft Tkachuk or Zadina instead of trading for ROR. Could also potentially move the 3OA (whoever is already drafted at that point) to Ottawa instead of Hamilton.

I would personally rather keep Hamilton and move out Stone and either Hamonic or Brodie with the D prospects who are ready or nearly ready.

If we signed Tavares with my scenario we’d be in cap hell anyway. In fact, I think you’ve changed my mind. This idea doesn’t give us strong enough centres. Especially since Jankowski is still an unknown at this point

I'm a huge ROR fan but Buffalo makes out like bandits here. Strictly looking at value, 3oa is probably an overpayment for him and then you have Fox added on top.

I wouldn't trade our 3rd overall and Gally for Monahan. In fact, for Gally has to be untouchable and theres no way we trade 3rd overall without getting a top-10 pick back

If Janko takes a big step forward, it could work well, but I'm not fully sold on him or Bennett yet.

Your team hasn't had a 1C for the last 15 years because you won't give value to get value. Nobody is going to hand you a free 1C.

3rd OA for O'Reilly is a dream for Botterill.
I see you are trading Hamilton. Can you see a trade involving O'Reilly (plus) for Hamilton?

Well we haven't had one in the last 15 years because we can draft and develop correctly.
I don't expect anybody to hand it to us, we're just going to draft him like good teams do.

Hamilton is our biggest trade chip we have. If we move him, we need a bonafide top RW. I could see a Brodie/O'Reilly deal, with other pieces attached.

I know Calgary needs a RW, Botterill can only dream of having a RHD as Hamiltion. O'Reilly, Okposo, Scadella for Hamilton (plus) Botterill holds $4,000,000 total?

I ilke it... couple teaks right and left but good roster overall...
MTL: I am a fan of Gally but if we need him to land a young 70pts+ REAL Center... it's a GO!
Ott: Swip trades... I feel that Calg will give their 2nd and receives their 3rd for Stone
Buff: No Need to gives 3OA pick for a guy that seems to want to be trade... Give Bennett + 2019 1st top 10 protected instead... and retain on Tkatchuk Bros to play him TOP 6 in Bennett replacement.
