I kinda like this. I'm sure I'm here before the MTL fans will argue about value, but 2 wingers (Chucky+Svech/Zadina) for 2 centers (RNH+Veleno/Kotkaniemi) satisfies both teams.

Love it but habs tsn will say galchenyuk is just as good and they will say this is a garbage deal but it's pretty good tbh unless habs fans wanna wait 3 years for a centre to develop or over pay players like stastny or tavarez they will not have an center's Oilers would use galchenyuk for McDavid winger and draft zadina for drai good trade bud

thats what i was thinking. my value thought was Nuge is equal to #3 and Galchenyuk is similar to #10. im sure both sides will argue about semantics but i believe the framework is there for a move

It's definitely an interesting base. I could see the MTL argument that trading down from no.3 is a mistake... some teams draft on the philosophy that you have to get a superstar regardless of team needs when you have the opportunity to draft that high. But I also know the mgmt in MTL is really trying to be competitive ASAP so adding a guy like Nuge to solidify the middle of the ice could be intriguing. It might not be as dramatic, but Nuge could have a breakout like William Karlsson or Sean Couturier if he's given top line wingers and juicier ice time. At least IMO as a casual fan.

I wouldn't call the deal garbage. But I don't see Montreal trading the 3rd overall for a fair deal. Montreal overpaying Tavares or Stastny allows us to keep Galchenyuk and the 3rd overall pick... So until Free Agency hits, I don't see Montreal making this type of deal.

Every fanbase thinks Montreal HAS TO deal with them to solve all their problems, then get offended when we say "we have other options...".

Yeah I can see where you are coming maybe Edmonton adds a prospect just because of the jump I'd add Jones if that helps you guys

IMO the value is closer to Nuge = Chucky and 3rd > 10th (obviously). Honestly no matter what other people may say, (cough, rangersandilsesfan, cough) there's not any reason for MB to trade Galchenyuk unless it's a huge overpay. Even if my value is off, there's no way Nuge = 3rd.

I need you to explain to me how Nuge is equal to Galchenyuk and I need you to provide some kind of proof

Hey I kind of think the same... Chucky & RNh value are very close...
Chucky makes 55pts scored once 30G without having a decent Center... imagine next to McJesus or DrDrai... he will hit 65-70pts easy...
where RNH never reach that level even playing next to McJ... again RNH get at the same level because he is a real Center... but skill, energy and total points goes on Chucky favor.
Don't get mad at me... it is my fair opinion.
I think to even out, MTL should get another good prospect winger (anyway you don't have room for more good young winger) like Yamamoto?

This trade is really close. Edmonton would never trade RNH for Galchenyuk straight across. AG was -31with 51pts last year and if Nuge hade played a full season he would've hit 60pts and a full season with McDavid he might of hit 70pts. He played 20 fewer games than AG and was only 3pts behind him with a +10. Main factor - RNH gets the same amount of points, but his Defense is to good to to trade away. Bergeron type players aren't easy to find. However, I do agree with the picks included Edmonton would have to throw in a prospect. (Bear, Jones or Benson)

Based on their career points per game Galchenyuk is a 50 point guy if he plays the full season with a career -34 and a FOW% of 45.3, while RNH is a 55 point guy with a career -32 and a FOW% of 43.8. So the question is, does adding a C who is, statistically, not a huge improvement, merit moving down from 3rd to 10th in the draft? I think Edmonton would have to throw in some pretty big conditional picks, to offset the chance Montreal is taking that this season was an anomaly for RNH.
Also RNH shot 4.4% above his career average while Galchenyuk shot 3.5% under, in otherwords RNH is likely to see a drop in goals next season and Galcheyuk will likely see an increase.

Please take Pacioretty instead! awesome face hehe

If MTL already had Zadina or Tkachuk (or Svechnikov :O ) they wouldn't trade them straight for RNH. They'd be more valuable, so RNH is not worth the 3rd itself.
As an MTL fan, I'd do it if Nurse was in there too, and MTL adds a little something. I'd still rather see you take Pacioretty. Don't say he's a rental, he's gonna sign. But anyway I don't recall any really high pick being traded since CAR 8th overall in 2012 to PIT for Jordan Staal. PIT had a sweet return, but not some 3rd pick value: They drafted Pouliot and got Dumoulin and Sutter...
But Galchenuyk for the 10 is a win-win, or Pacioretty aheum...
Bergevin also said the offer had to be unreal unless they'll choose the obvious and pick.

the real question is... do Edm look bettter with: Galch + Zadina IN
ot with RNH & Dobson??? I agree its a tough one and who ever.. EDM Fans or MTLK fans says... its a split!
(with or without a prospect added)
But I really think EDM would be better with Chucky & Zadina IN!

RNH has played an additional season and on the worst team in the NHL for many of those years. If we think the Oilers D is bad now, than you don't remember those years. RNH averages .68pts per game over his career (not an anomaly) and Galchenyuk is at .61 over his. You can't just look at season totals...it's games played per season. Nuge produces at a higher rate and Montreal was a good/playoff team for most of those years and Galchenyuk was still a worse +/- player. I think we both know his numbers would be horrendous if he was on the Oilers back then.

I didn't just look at season total, I multiplied their points per game by 82. 0.68pts per game is a 56 point pace over 82 games like I said in my post, well I said 55 but that's because I like nice rounded numbers, 0.61pts per game is 50 points over 82. Galchenyuk is a worse plus minus player though 31 of his -34 came this season, if you want to say RNH should get a pass when the Oilers were bad why should Galchenyuk not get a pass when the Habs were bad? In years that their teams were good enough to make playoffs RNH is -10, while Galchenyuk is +5. Career +/- is better that cherry picking seasons. Galchenyuk is -.08 per game, RNH is -.07, the difference in +/- is 1 more goal against than goal for over the course of 100 games, negligible really.
