Ive seen johnson in a few trades on here, is there a reason? As far as i see they have no reason to trade a very good roster player right now when then want to contend next Year

They're in a serious cap crunch and getting rid of his 5m aav frees up some room to re-sign guys like miller and paquette this summer plus kucherov, point and mcdonagh are all in need of new contracts in 2 years. They are gonna need to save every penny. I could see them letting mcdonagh walk to save some money but not the other 2.

They are going to make the most of that last year though, i can see a trade for johnson at next years draft (for far less value) but not right before a season where they will obviously be pushing for a cup

Yeah I understand your point but it's not like they're losing him for nothing. If they want continued success they would hope bennett at that point can put up 40 to 50 points at a younger age and much cheaper price for them and maybe a year after the trade kylington can be a regular defenceman for them.

Did you see the haul of futures they gave for mcdonagh? They want to win now and worry about the future later

Like I said I get your point but they're already 1 mill over the cap with key players who need raises this off season. Yes other things can be done to change your cap structure but this seems like a fair deal to try and keep them at the top of the standings
