Why not just post from MTL's perspective?

Because people will say the Stars overpay and that Pacc dosen't fit so here's the proof the he would indeed fit very nicely.
Not much to see on MTL's side, the key piece is the draft pick. Mattias Janmark is a player i really like and feel like he would do a bit like Karlsson did in Vegas. Maybe not score 40 goals but i'd see him hitting 50 points in a much bigger role in the centre-line of the habs.

I'd rather stick with Janmark and the first. Pacioretty's value is currently semi low after a bad season and his ending contract makes it even lower. Janmark had only 3 less points than him last season. Furthermore, Janmark is younger, has more potential and can play as a center, and his new contract will be much cheaper than Pacioretty's new contract is going to be.

Too many reasons for Dallas to decline. They really don't get any better by doing this trade.

I would also pass. Like you had said Janmark could be the next Karlsson from Vegas just waiting to hit his stride. And like Burgerboss92 said, he's younger, plays centre and wing, contract will probably be better than Pacc will be and has a way higher potential than Pacc rn. Plus the first round is way too much for a guy who isn't overly needed. Not when FA has guys like JVR, Neal, Kane, Perron, Vanek, Grabner, Nash, etc.

So the Stars trade a top-6 winger for a top-6 winger. They aren't gaining that extra piece that they need in their top-6, and they're giving up their 1st round pick? No thanks. Sure they get Nichushkin back next season, but as of now their top-6 looks like:

Benn-Seguin-Radulov
Janmark-???-Nichushkin

Faksa is a phenomenal 3C. He plays a great shut down role, while also being able to provide great depth production. Moving him to the 2C position really hurts our bottom-6. The Stars should look to free agency to fill the hole on their 2nd line. Trading Janmark for Pacioretty may give the Stars an extra few points on the 2nd line, but that's not nearly enough to warrant giving up our 1st round pick, especially considering the fact that they still don't have that 2C. And honestly, Janmark had a career year with a revolving door at Center and Right Wing. Give him linemates like Nichushkin and JVR/Neal/Stastny/Nash for a full year and he's a 50+ player. Stars really don't gain much at all by making this trade.

Pacioretty will bring alot more than just a few points...Paccio could easily score 40g 70+pts and still play good defensively in Dallas, feels like your under valuing him. Janmark will be at the very best a 50 point man and it's possible he never does compared to Max who did it plenty of times in his career and had a down year.

There still money to sign a center since i agree Faksa is a third liner without much offensive upsides to his game. I signed Roussel but the Stars could let him walk and have money to sign a guy like Bozak and if they manage to get rid of Spezza's contract they could even go for JT.

40 goals from a guy who's about to be on the wrong side of 30? I'd say that's wishful thinking. With how well Janmark played after being sidelined for the entire previous season, I'd much rather stick with him, especially with him probably getting a bridge deal. Then go after JVR or some other FA. Especially if you let Roussel walk like you suggested, you've got plenty of dough to go after one or more of the pretty good FAs that are available.

wrong side of 30's? Max is 29 lol so is JVR btw.
Last year some folks were talking about Max for Selke...he scored 35+ with David Desharnais as center, im sure he would get 40 with playing again with Radu, and say Bozak if you use that dough on a center and having PP time with Seguin/Benn.
Janmark's value is rated so high because he had a good year...

Good point about age. The way I see it, the big difference is JVR isn't costing one of our best young players and a first rounder, plus Patches is coming off of a meh season. JVR scored 36 primarily in a 3rd line role (I think?), so I feel like he would bring just as much offense as Patches. They're pretty comparable players if they both have a healthy year, I just look at the cost for each one. And JVR was just an example of an FA to target, there's plenty others out there.

Also, contracts. Janmark gets a bridge deal of $4M, 5 years. Patches has one year left of $4.5M, and then probably needs a raise (if he does in fact perform well) while we also need to resign Seguin, Lindell, and Honka. Money might be tight, it'd be interesting to look at this from a 2019-2020 perspective as well.

Thanks for replying!

I'm not a huge fan either but good on MTL to ask for Jannmark rather than Dickinson or Honka. Just to play devil's advocate but Pac also doesn't have the degenerative knee issue. I love Janny as much as the next guy but one wrong hit/slash or just with enough time that knee can end his career.
