ROR trade - comments please

Created by: Caniac555
Team: 2018-19 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: May 8, 2018

Description
Trying to understand - I see almost every Sabres trade on here moving ROR. I also see it very common to have Carolina as the team trading for him.

Can I get the BUF perspective on why he’s wanted out of town? Just contract?

Nothing to do with his contract or production. Sabres have holes to address and ROR made himself available in the eyes of sabres fans with his end of the year presser

Ill tldl it for you: he gets all emo and says he lost the enjoyment he had in the game this season, wishes the team got better. I understand what he was saying, but this guy was supposed to be a leader. Sabres fans dont want this attitude in the locker room. If you read some of their comments, this is what they mean by locker room cancer. I like ROR and if hes on the team next year i won't be upset. But the sabres have a severe lack of talented LWers and could use a top 4 dman. Only a couple guys on this team could address these needs in one fell swoop.

i don't lean too far into the post-season presser. we need a lot of pieces. he plays well in the world championship so his trade value will be high. we have eichel, mittelstadt and other center prospects in the pipeline and adding dahlin with another legit defenseman and a winger to play with eichel or a guy like rask to be the #2C until mittelstadt gets his feet wet will make us a completely different team. he's a faceoff winning machine, a high-level PP finisher, and will be great with wingers who can skate. your trade isn't far off. i don't mind retaining and adding a pick if it gives us rask and skinner.

Thanks! Basically what you’re saying is that you’d want Skinner in the deal I’ve posted or replace Faulk with Skinner?

five stars for trading for O'Reilly. I like Faulk and Rask, maybe drop the picks, IDK maybe fine the way it is.

It is an adequate deal. We get RHD in top 4, and center in second 2-3 line.

Personally, the only way I'm trading ROR is if they sign Tavares, or pick up another comparable C from somewhere else.

For fun: Sabres sign Tavares, what do you think about #2 + Skinner for ROR, Pick 32 this year, BUF 2019 1st, Sharks 2019 1st?

Thats way too much. drop #2 if it's going to cost 2 1sts and #32. I would move ROR for Skinner+

Sorry - just clarifying - are you saying 32 and next year's 1st rounders is too much for the Sabres? I'd kind of agree, but here's my thinking behind it being ok.

Moving up 30 spots this year for an elite scoring winger prospect in Svechnikov (desperately needed) for our 2019 pick and the extra draft capital we got for Kane. I'm not looking to recoup the losses from the, in hindsight, abysmal Kane/Bogo trade. I just see the Sharks pick as an extra asset we wouldn't usually have, which is why I was okay with just getting at worst a 2nd for him.

(I also think Skinner would fetch at least a 2nd round value at the deadline if the Sabres are not in the hunt/don't want to re-sign him)
