Realistic Overhaul

Created by: TySmith4Norris
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 9, 2018
Published: May 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trades:
-Hunwick valuable as a 6D to the right team looking for a puck mover, think Arizona could be a fit.
-Declining Anisimov for mercurial Sheary: Chicago wants speedy/scoring wingers and Pens need more consistent wingers with some size.
-EDM trade: Klefbom for Maatta might make sense to a GM that loves defensive defensemen in Chiarelli. Aberg brings a speed element and Anisimov takes Kuhnhackl's spot on the PK. Pick and C-prospect to even it out.

As a Pens fan, I'm not interested in trade Maatta to get Klefbom. If JR trade him, he should bring a better value than Klefbom. I don't like any of Oilers d-men at all.

As a pens fan, If GMJR can turn Maatta into klefbom... I will personally get a Tattoo of Rutherford on my upper arm

Lol

Man, there're better options if he want to trade Maatta. In fact, I ain't give up of Mattaa yet. He's just 23. You guys screw him like he's a veteran who can't contribute anymore.

Ducks fans are the one who should want his top guys out. Getzlaf, Kesler and specially Perry were nothing but disappointing players, specially in postseason. And guys like them must be screwed in bad times, specially when the team is sweeped by a rival like they did. That's not our case at all. So take it easy with Mattaa. The kid don't deserve all the harsh treatment that he's receiving. He has good upside and deserve at least one more year of credit with us.

It’s not that I don’t like maatta. I really do like him. It’s just I see klefbom as a far superior player and if pens could turn maatta into klefbom im all for it

I get where you’re coming from and actually really like Maatta’s game.... but Klefbom is just objectively better, with more upside. At his best, Klef is a #1. At his best, Maatta is a #2. Not really selling low on Maatta, just buying low on Klefbom. Players like him don’t hit the market much. If the Pens aren’t going to move Letang, they need someone that can help him more on the ice. Klefbom does that more than Maatta ever will, even if he returns to his best form next year.

I see your point and mhockey91's. I respect plausible different point of views like yours.

As for Letang, of course we won't move Letang, cause that'd be one of the most stupid moves Pens could make. Some Pens "fans" forget that Tanger had a serious neck injury and he almost had no time to regain his fit before the season's beggining.

He's not a Doughty, Karlsson or Hedman, of course, but he's still a great d-man and leader. We need him, specially because he's by far our best d-man. Although I like Dumo's improvement. Surprisingly to me he's improving offensively either. The same about Maatta.

Agreed 100%. People forget that letang is coming off a serious injury and finally has a full offseason to recover. I’m thinking next season we’re gonna see a letang similar to 2015/16 season. He’s such a hard worker. This offseason he’s going to train like crazy

That's my thought either. I think we need to get more depth in our D and scoring depth either. I made one armchair showing moves that I think we could improve in both ends. If we could make most of that moves, I really think we'll have a great chance to win again.

Really? Haven’t we wanted a big Russian winger for Geno for years? Can’t hurt that he can kill penalties and is alright in the dot for when Geno gets kicked... Sure he’s declining but I like his game a lot more than Sheary’s, especially with the versatility he provides us if Brassard walks in a year

AA is bad, like worse than Sheary bad. Also on a long/bigger contract and is way slower. He’d drive Sullivan nuts.

Fair enough, haven't watched him since he was centering the Kane/Panarin duo.

Agree. A 50% increase in cap hit for no increase in offense and, as difficult it is to consider, a DECREASE in physicality. Anisimov might be 6'4 but he does not use it at all. So you are trading a relatively one-dimensional 20 goal scorer @$3M for a one-dimensional 20 go scorer @$4.55M. Pass.

Maybe Hagelin for Anisimov, but the 3 years at $4.55M just hurts a lot.

Maatta for Klefbom is intriguing. Maatta isn't a bad defenseman at all but he is slow. Klefbom would be an upgrade as a possibly better fit for because he is a better skater.
They are kind of equal so its basically teams preference over what kind of player they want.
AA for Sheary is bad for both teams. AA still scored 20 goals and is the #2 center and played with lesser talent as Chicago was just a bad team this year. I think chicago will want more than Sheary and the Pens wouldn't want that cap hit
