Seriously, a rebuild wouldn't be that bad

Description
I'm guessing the Habs draft Zadina with the #3 pick.

I think bergeron already agreed to re-sign pleks so I decided to go with it

Absolutely love Price. But he has to go to rebuild properly. Same for Weber, Byron and Patches..

I, too, was perplexed by St. Louis as a destination for Weber. Lots of teams would want him, but St. Louis is a team that is working to get younger.

Not to mention the contract and that we have Parayko and Petro on the right side.

You forget, there are more "Melnyk" owners in the NHL than TMLs and MSGs. Weber's cap is $7.85, but his cash out is now $6, soon to be $3M then $1M.

At the moment, sure, $8M is a hefty contract for a top-4 Dman, but not crazy. What's important to note is that his cash cost is only $6M. In 3 years, as the cap and the floor keep rising, Weber's cash cost drops to $3M then $1M, but he helps any team comply with the cap floor. Those teams can trade him and retain 50% of the cap. Do you not think there will be teams wanting Weber for a Cup run if the cap hit is <$4M? And, if he retires, the cap hit goes back to Nashville.

2018-19 $7,857,143 $6,000,000
2019-20 $7,857,143 $6,000,000
2020-21 $7,857,143 $6,000,000
2021-22 $7,857,143 $6,000,000
2022-23 $7,857,143 $3,000,000
2023-24 $7,857,143 $1,000,000
2024-25 $7,857,143 $1,000,000
2025-26 $7,857,143 $1,000,000

oh quit it with the cap floor argument....if we trade Weber to a cap team to help them reach the floor(aka arizona) we are going to get what in return? a 4th round pick maybe?
You're not trading Weber in that scenario, your just trading financial numbers. In a hockey deal no teams would touch Weber's contract to get better and win a cup

The point is that no matter what stage he's at in the next 8 years, he is going to have value to some team or other. For now, it's to contenders. After that, he's a solid vet for a floor/expansion team.
