Offseason Moves

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 11, 2018
Published: May 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First Line: The Guentzel-Crosby-Hornqvist line has worked and should stay together.
Second Line: There have also been rumblings of Brassard moving on the wing to play in the top 6, and could serve as Malkin's winger. Sprong could be put next to Malkin so he can learn from him. Malkin has success with Kessel, so maybe with Sprong, a somewhat similar player, he could fit.
Third Line: New addition Bennett could centre the line, with Kessel and Rust on the wings.
Fourth Line: Sheahan will center the line with Aston-Reese and Kuhnhackl/Simon on the wings.
Defensemen: Dumo and Letang will stay together.
Oleksiak will go with Schultz and Maatta will go with Stone.
1st Trade explanation: Penguins get a RHD that is more defensive, as well as a young 3C who can try to play up to his potential. Calgary gets a young goalie they can develop, as well as a good 3LW in Sheary and a depth dman in Hunwick.
2nd Trade Explanation: Hagelin had a good 2nd part of the season, and gained a bit of value. The Penguins need to shed cap space and move him to Buffalo, where the GM is familiar with him. Hagelin will add speed to a young team and will fit nicely, while the Pens replenish the 2019 3rd they gave to Ottawa.

Sheahan has proven that he is more than capable at playing 3C and plays well with Kessel so he would be a better fit. Bennett would be 4C.

I think Botterill will trade for Hagelin. I think Rutherford would like to trade with his friend. Good trade.
