Just out of curiosity. How much you think Matthews asks for?

Both Arizona and Vancouver scream no. You are trading scraps and a bunch of bottom 6 players, a ahl goalie, and a 3rd round for domi who is a top 6 young forward with a down year, and Vancouver is rebuilding and you are trading prime aged players Kadri, Gardiner and trying to take the best prospect of 2017 other than the top 2, on top of another top prospect and a decent top 4 defenseman.

This is Toronto, and not P. Chiarelli, and therefore IMO, Matthews will not get, or be looking for McDavid money! I would think that a reasonable comparable, would be in Eichels contract somewhere in the $10-$11M range! McDavid, Draisitle, and Johansen in Nashville I see as outliers, not because they aren't great players, but because contracts were so early in career. Far more comparables for Drai and Johansen in the $6-$7M range!

I would watch this year and next before betting on money. If someone goes crazy and gives Tavares 13-14 million then I think Matthews will ask for close to 12-12.5 if not more
Next year you have Seguin, Matthews, Couture and others to compare to. In the end the contract that Draisaitl got will seem like a bargain in a couple years.

Understand I am not slagging the players, nor questioning their abilities, now and going forward, but the fact remains that until they signed there was far more comparables to suggest much less! McDavid, and hopefully Matthew may be different, (Generational players) and command the top $ so I guess we will see! And you're right, someone will throw STUPID money at Tavares, but I doubt it will be with a contender, and therefore I doubt he signs for money alone!

Just for the record, Max Domi is coming off 2 disappointing years, statistically and production wise. A slow and steady decline, doesn't fit into Tocchet's structure, and finds himself playing well down the lineup! In addition it would seem that he is on the outs in Phoenix. Bad time to be looking for a home run deal. . . . .In Pickard Phoenix gets a goalie that can come in and challenge for a 1A or 1B spot, likely allowing them to move Raanta, and in Rosen, (one of a handful of AHL Dmen, NHL ready). Hardly scraps, although that's what you might get, for Domi in a trade at this time! Needs a change of scenery and trade will likely happen, if I'm the Leafs, that's all I see it's worth in taking the gamble!

Dubas would replace 50.7% CF Gardiner with 47.3% Tanev?

Well considering Matthews hasn't lead the league in nothing, was my consideration. Back to back years, you gotta be paid for something

I dont like draisaitls contract, too much. 7-7.5 I woulda been happy with. Eichels contract is a joke. Kane and toews had to win 3 cups before they got paid 10.5. They just gave Eichel that money.
