BUFF 18/19

Created by: LBNYMike
Team: 2018-19 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 5, 2018
Published: May 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trying to look long-term here yet stay competitive. Adding young guys (Ho-Sang, Wood, Hayden, Dvorak) with vets (Calvert, Bozak, Hagelin, Hjalmarsson) to balance the line-up.

Good draft this year with Dahlin, Bokk, Ylonen, and K'andre Miller in first 2 rounds.

Flip Haggy, Pominville and Hjalmarsson at TDL for picks/prospects and almost $14M in cap space prior to good FA class in summer of '19. This can be a good team in 2-3 years.

    Thanks. I was trying to keep it realistic and look at what they could have a couple of years down the road. I hope this team turns it around.

    Thank you for taking the time to publish a team. The effort required is greatly appreciated....

    A few general thoughts:

    1. If Hossa is going to be eligible for LTIR for the entire year than I do not see Chicago trading him as they could just as easy place him on LTIR. I do not think the Chicago deal happens for just Girgensons. I think Buffalo will have to add in order for that trade to happen..... Baptiste, Bailey, a pick;

    2. I am ok with the NYI deal but (cough cough cough I can not believe I am going to type this) I would prefer to not include Wilson in the deal. If you could get NYI to take Bailey, Baptiste, Cornel.... the Greiss contract is UGLY;

    3. I like your thinking with the Philly deal but I do not think it is critical. Philly has some nice young D that are probably going to get a long look to make the Big club so I am not sure how much they would want Bealieu. I think you could consider dropping Beaulieu in that Pittsburgh, Chicago or NYI deal to sweeten those deals up (I would advise retaining a portion of his salary);

    4. I do not think Pittsburgh just dumps Hagelin. Antipin did not adjust well to the NHL..... was it system, coaching, home sick, lack of talent.... Antipin & a 6th is basically nothing so I think you will need to offer more to the Penguins for Hagelin I really like Hagelin and I think he would fit well along side Jack;

    5. Nice thought process on the Coyotes deal. I think the Sabres are giving up too much in the deal;

    @wags - Thanks for the feedback. My thinking with the Hossa deal was that the Hawks do not get the cap relief until the first day of the season when he gets placed on LTIR. Buffalo can afford to carry the cap hit through the summer and it allows the Hawks to make some moves. Sending a pick back with Girgensons is what I should have added.

    Appreciate all of your other comments. I agree on Hags not being given away. Cornel could be added to that deal or the NYI deal.
