2nd and 3rd Overall picks, because I love hate comments

Created by: Cjeths
Team: 2018-19 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: May 14, 2018
Published: May 14, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade prospects like nieves and O'Gara for low round picks to make room.

This team does not compete next year, maybe not even the year after.

Going to easily see a lot of changes on Defense as Lindgren, Hajek, Rykov,Day, Crawley, etc begin to creep towards NHL ready players.

If we do in fact stink next season, than we hopefully end up with Jack Hughes, who will fill the void left by Hayes and then some.

If in two years we're not yet competing we'll be tanking for Lafreniere who is an absolute tank. Buried 40+ goals and lead Rinouski in scoring as a 15 y/o.

By the third year we will have Shestyorkin in the NHL, No more Smith or Staal contract obligations, Hank will have either retired or have taken a step back for shesty, Zucc will be the 35 y/o vet/capt, Zadina and Svechnikov will be entering the end of their ELC's and will be (hopefully) dominant NHL players, Andersson will hopefully be a very good 2C to kill penalties and work the corners on the PP, Chytil should be a 50-60 point guy, Defense will be very young and very well rounded, etc etc etc.

So all in all I wouldn't mind having to suck for two more years if it means we will be really REALLY good for 10-15 years.

        MTL fans:
        NO: Spoon + 9OA won't get you 3OA.
Very tempting= Hayes + 9OA is more fair for 3OA.
Maybe Names + Spoon + 26th OA is OK for 2OA? (But I can't see Carolina trading down.. as they are rebuilding for good)

Remove Shaw, and take Alzner. Remove Spooner and add Tampa's First or Sens 2nd. No hate here, its worth thinking over if the Habs received this offer. I may still not like the trade, but it wouldn't be so terrible.

        On your Carolina point.

I see CAR as a team that really is a 2C away from being a playoff team.

Their defense is stacked up and down and very young, they just need that C.

Darling had a bad year, but is gonna bounce back.

Imagine if CAR went ahead and traded Slavin + ??? For Nylander and then had 1C Nylander 2C Hayes 3C Staal with their still stacked D-Core, solid wingers, and starting goalie. That's an upper tier playoff team I think. Upper tier meaning 2nd round appearance minimum team

Can easily do the Shaw and Alzner swap.

Can also do the Spooner for TBL first swap as well.

NYR can probably sell Spoons for Late first anyways (22-27)

First of all the trades are very reasonable.
Trade 1 killer is I don't think Carolina has the $7-10 mill. to re-sign Names and Hayes. All that money would have to come from the owners pocket.
Trade 2 is the most likely trade to be accepted. The only caveat I see is Montreal desperate need for a #1 center. If they think they could do it a 9. Then I could see it happen. Adding Alzer's contract to Smith's and Staal would be ugly at best.
Trade 3 I can't see anyone taking Staal without 50% retention. Then you might even need to throw a 2nd in the deal too.
