Description

The one position the Carolina really needs is a #1 C. While Staal is a great all around player, he is not a #1 C.
Signing Tavares is a long shot, but it is possible. Hurricanes are in a better spot than the Islanders, lower income tax rate, a new owner that wants to make an impact.
In order to accommodate the Tavares signing, a few trades need to be made.
MTL trade: MTL gets a #2 C and a Top 4 D. CAR gets a top 6 Forward (with great upside) and a big top 9 player along with the ability to dump cap for their new #1 C.
CGY trade: Calgary gets the top 6 W they've been wanting. Carolina gets a better top 4 D man.
Next year they can go after a goalie.

End of it all...
Gain: Tavares, Brodie, Galchenyuk and McCarron
Lose: Skinner, Rask, Pecse

I like what you’re thinking but I don’t think Nordy or Cam get resigned and Dahly is rumored to be going to the KHL. As a result, I would prefer to exchange Faulk for Pesce and add Benn to their end. Of the deal.

Personally I wouldn't move Pesce for anything. He and Slavin could shut down an airport. In my mind Slavin Pesce and Aho are untouchable and I doubt any of them get moved. I don't think Bean is ready for the NHL. He's just come out of junior.
