Trade Explanations:

Sheary-Bjugstad Trade:
I’ve just been seeing this a lot on here, so I guess this is okay for everyone.

Hagelin-Beaulieu Trade:
PIT most likely will not resign Hagelin. Might as well get an NHL ready D-prospect that has had a rough time. Give him a training camp with Gonchar and he’ll be a regular.

Paul Martin Trade:
I feel like it wouldn’t take much to trade for Paul, but the cap is the issue. So a cheap roster player and a Pick should ease the retention. Paul would be a great veteran D-man presence that plays extremely well with players like Schultz (regularly played with Burns). Also adds a little character in the room that we lacked this past season.

Maatta-Athanasiou Trade:
This is the most controversial. Maatta is a great D-man for us. This is not a trade due to me not liking him. I just believe his worth in a trade (and what we could get in return from him) is much better than his impact on the team. Getting a young, speedy winger with large upside is completely worth it. And throwing in Sprong, who seems to have already fallen out of favor with HCMS and management, and a second warrants a higher end defensive prospect that could push for playing time.

Sabre fans here

Quick answer... no thanks

Long answer...
we have young, fast wingers (Bailey & Baptiste, among others) that are ready to step in the lineup- so why trade for a guy with 1 year left on his contract
He’s basically a rental (since we’d be unlikely to re-sign him as well), and since it’s doubtful we are making a playoff run next year- he just doesn’t “fit”
But for arguments sake, if we were gonna trade for him...
you guys are adding, not us
We are doing u the favor of taking his Cap hit off your hands, so there’s no way we are doing an additional favor of adding a pick- no way
And i doubt a 3rd would even do it
We’d most likely be looking to make a deal like we did with Minny last year- where we took on Pominville to get a cheaper price on Scandella
So to equate that to u guys...
maybe we’d want someone like Sheary, and we’d take Hagelin’s Cap hit off your hands to get Sheary at a cheaper cost than if we just tried to get him straight up

San Jose trade doesn’t make much sense either to me
Do they really wanna dump Paul Martin?
Bc all you’re giving them is a 4th liner
Wouldn’t it make more sense for just sign a similar guy in free agency, not give up a 4th, and keep a decent depth defenseman?
Plus u want them to retain salary...
i just don’t see that trade happening either

Did some write mention trading Maatta, so all of the sheep jumped on board? A lot of out of the blue trades involving Maatta today.
