You can’t just unload a garbage contract for a late pick.... you can either buyout or pay for other teams to take Orpik.

Orpik can still play top 6 minutes and would be a great mentor and teacher to Dahlin and Ristolainen. Buffalo has the cap space so I think it is a fair trade.

Bad contracts don't really apply to players with only one year left on their deal.......

Off the top of my head, sabres lhd- dahlin, mccabe, beaulieu, guhle, pilut, scandella. Maybe dahlin plays right side here, usually lhd switch to the left side on the smaller north american rinks. I dont think theres room and theres better ways to spend 5.5 even if its just for one year. I would be more inclined to see if the caps offer a b prospect if he was rhd, but as it stands now, i doubt there is interest.

He wouldn’t be in the top6 in Buffalo. He’s a traffic cone, and I don’t care about mentorship. I care about good fast young players, and Orpik is none of those. Not Buffalos problem. I brought up Pominville and McCabe with some retained salary for orpik and Burakovsky. WSH gets about 3M in cap space to re-sign Carlson and still doesn’t lose bodies.

That would be a really bad trade for Caps. Pominville and Orpik even each other out but no way McCabe can land you Burakovsky, even with retained salary.

That’s what cap he’ll does for you. And Pominville is a more effective player than orpik

Caps could instead buy out Orpik and save 3M, so the cap situation is nowhere near hell.

Pominville trade would make 0 sense for the caps. They have young wingers who can fill in the bottom six. Orpik getting traded would be a cap dump so they would not take on another albatross contract. In no way does McCabe = Bura in value, not even Orpik's contract would make that an even trade.
