Round 1 Playoff Results:

Columbus Blue Jackets vs Washington Capitals
What a matchup. Both teams went all in on their chances this year, and it is truly unfortunate that this was a first round series because both teams have the firepower to go a long way. The GM voting gave the edge to Washington – CBJ’s defensive prowess washed out Washington’s elite forwards, but the Caps’ edge in goaltending was ultimately too much for the Jackets to overcome. The Washington Capitals are moving on after a stunning 4-3 series win over the President’s Trophy winners.
Winner: Capitals in 7 (W-L-W-W-L-L-W)

Boston Bruins vs New York Islanders
The Islanders stellar goaltending was tested early and often in this series. They failed to contain possibly the deepest lineup in the playoffs. Boston had the edge in 7 of the 8 categories and was in total control from the start of the series. The 2nd seed Bruins are looking to roll through the East.
Winner: Bruins in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Carolina Hurricanes
I thought this one would be closer than the voting ended up. The home team Toronto gained a slight edge in 6 categories, and although none were extremely significant, the net result was the Leafs at a 75% favorite going into the series. The Canes were fighting hard on the road and jumped out to an early lead, but the Leafs ultimately took the series in what turned out to be an instant classic.
Winner: Leafs in 7 (L-L-W-W-L-W-W)

Philadelphia Flyers vs Pittsburgh Penguins
The battle Pennsylvania was a tough first round matchup for the Flyers, who had dominated the regular season up until the last month – but the President’s Trophy runner-ups are still looking to make a deep run through the East. Pittsburgh was slightly overmatched in this one, and an early 2-0 series lead was too much for the Pens to come back from. No Flyera just yet.
Winner: Flyers in 6 (W-W-L-W-L-W)

St. Louis Blues vs Winnipeg Jets
A midseason change in upper management sent the Jets into a bit of a re-tool, but their roster was no joke going into their first round matchup versus the Blues. Ultimately, the speedy Blues had an edge on both sides of the puck, and a pretty severe advantage in net. Blues took control from the get-go and were able to take this one in front of the white-out crowd in the Peg.
Winner: Blues in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers
Playoff McDavid? Playoff McDavid. This was the tightest matchup in the first round. The edge that Dallas possesses in net was large enough in magnitude to evenly counter a potent Edmonton offense led by the best in the business. GM voting basically yielded a wash – the Stars at home had about 49% odds going into the series. Edmonton took the first game and stole the home-ice advantage, but Dallas roared back and took 4 of the next 5 to capture a series win.
Winner: Stars in 6 (L-W-W-L-W-W)

Vegas Golden Knights vs Minnesota Wild
The Vegas Knights, looking to build upon their best season in franchise history, were going to have to do it against an up-and-coming Minnesota team that embraced the spoiler role. The GMs voted with a significant favoritism toward the Golden Knights in this one, and they made quick work of the Wild.
Winner: Golden Knights in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Vancouver Canucks vs Nashville Predators
The GM vote gave the Canucks a significant advantage in this #2 v #7 matchup. The offensive firepower for both teams made for an exciting series, but the Canucks looked like a team built for the playoffs. A blowout win in game 1 set the tone for the rest of the series, and the Canucks, led by their scary depth down the middle of the ice, never looked back.
Winner: Canucks in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Here's the current draft board after 1 round of the playoffs. Thanks to @flamesfan419 for creating the layout of the spreadsheet. When you have time, could you please make sure all the picks that you own are correct. There's also a few picks that are missing, so if you could make sure you didn't miss any picks while creating your new page or copying the former GM's page that would be great.

Thanks,

BOG

Attention all GMs:
The deadline for submissions into consideration for the open BOG position has passed. I will now be accepting votes for who will become the member. Since I will, be receiving the votes, I will not be casting one. GMs who have submitted their names for consideration will also not receive a vote. Each GM will pick ONE candidate who they would like to see on the Board of Governors. Those candidates are:

@Gronk
@Icegirl
@flamesfan419
@TMLSage

On Sunday, I said voting would be closing on Thursday, April 25th at 12pm EST. However, I am pushing that deadline back one day, and it will instead close on Friday, April 26th at 12pm EST. Any votes submitted after this time will not be considered. Votes will be tallied and the new BOG member will be announced later that day. Please get your votes in the poll provided by @A_K or my email which is gmgamecanucks@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Attention GMs

We have a bit of a situation unfolding regarding a draft pick. Specifically the 2019 Minnesota 2nd round pick. This pick was traded a few times, including from MIN to DET, DET to CGY, and then CGY to DET where it currently stands.

Unfortunately, somewhere down the line there was an error regarding this pick. A trade was made between the previous Buffalo GM and Minnesota. On BUF's previous page, a pick he acquired in that trade (2019 PHI 2nd) was falsely labelled as the MIN 2nd.

The problem herein lies in the fact that Buffalo traded this pick to Carolina for Jordan Staal. Without our knowldge, this was an illegal trade, but didn't come up until when we were going through the draft picks for the upcoming Entry Draft. This may not seem like a big deal, but the big problem is that it was then traded to ARI in the Wennberg trade. When Jmac took over BUF, that pick was carried over to his team, despite Buffalo never once controlling this pick. He then traded it to Calgary in the Raanta deal. So, with this one misplaced pick, we have three trades that are being affected. The pick currently resides on both Calgary and Detroit, but it rightfully belongs to DET.

In order to solve the problem with the pick being illegally traded three times, that asset either needs to be replaced in those trades, or they will unfortunately have to all be revised. This could also have shockwave effects on other trades concerning those assets. To this point, we have a potential fix for these problems:

The Staal trade will be reversed.
The Wennberg trade will be corrected by sending the ARI 2019 2nd instead of the illegally traded MIN 2019 2nd.
The Raanta trade will be corrected by sending the PHI 2019 2nd which was supposed to be on BUF, rather than the MIN 2019 2nd

Round 2 Playoff Results:

Boston Bruins vs Washington Capitals
Caps and Bruins. Two powerhouse teams that came into this matchup with cup aspirations and they left it all on the ice. The Caps took the first two games on the road and never looked back in this one. What a performance by Caps’ netminder Braden Holtby. He stole the show and pushed the defending champs one step closer to consecutive Stanley Cups.
Winner: Capitals in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Philadelphia Flyers vs Toronto Maple Leafs
Tight matchup with the winner here moving on to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Flyers had the edge on the offensive side of the puck in this one, and ultimately some timely scoring on the power play led them to a convincing series win over the Maple Leafs. Philly clinched the series in front of the home crowd at the Wells Fargo Center, and despite the noise, you could still hear Claude Giroux cooing like a pigeon at JVR.
Winner: Flyers in 5 (W-L-W-W-W)

St. Louis Blues vs Dallas Stars
This was the tightest voting matchup that we’ve seen in the V3 playoffs. The voting ended at 25.5 to 24.5 – Dallas had the edge in net and on the PP and St. Louis was judged to have a slight advantage with their skaters outside of the crease. The Stars stole the first two games in STL and had the Blues on the ropes after a decisive Game 3 victory back in Dallas. But the pesky Blues roared back and took the last 4 games to pull off a reverse sweep. Series MVP – Vladimir Tarasenko, who was quoted as saying "is just game why you heff to be mad?".
Winner: Blues in 7 (L-L-L-W-W-W-W)

Vancouver Canucks vs Vegas Golden Knights
Both of these teams were at the top of their games going into this one. The Canucks and the Knights both swept their round one opponents and were getting used to the whole “winning” thing. Vancouver won their games at home (with timely goals from the ludicrous “Brock LandesDrai” top line), split on the road, and came back to BC where they clinched a berth in the western conference finals. Unfortunately for the Knights, they will not be returning to the SCF this year (and no, there were no major penalties called in this simulation).
Winner: Canucks in 5 (W-W-L-W- W)

BOG members are now undefeated unless versing other BOG members.

Just some fun facts.

Unfortunately, by making this post you will be forced to forfeit a draft pick. @A_K made it explicitly clear any non-BOG member posting in this thread unnecessarily would face this.

NEW MEMBER BOG VOTE:

After receiving about twice as many votes as to be expected, we realized that a simple poll will not suffice. So here is another attempt at the New BOG Member Vote. Use your email, your team name, and your CF username. Vote once. Be respectful of the time that it takes to make things democratic.

VOTE HERE: https://forms.gle/xPM4TGwFz9MosrDC7

This is a re-vote, so even if you voted on the previous poll, you will have to vote again. Voting will run from today until MONDAY, APRIL 29TH at 12pm EST.

Attention BUF, CAR, DET, and NSH

We have a bit of a tiny, teensy weensy problem with the 2019 Buffalo 3rd round pick. I'll try to run this down as easily as I possibly can, although please keep in mind we're going down a bit of a wormhole for this one:

On June 5, 2018, the pick in question was traded from Buffalo to Detroit in a all-picks deal.

On September 1, 2018, it was traded by Detroit to Florida as part of the Barkov/Larkin deal.

Then, on September 29, 2018, it was once again traded by Detroit, this time to Nashville in the Ekholm/Ekblad deal.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE

On October 7, 2018, it was ONCE AGAIN traded by Buffalo, this time to Carolina in the Anderson/McCabe deal.

I may be BOG, but I have *no idea* how we're supposed to solve this. There is no viable way of reversing any of these deals, so odds are that the twice-traded picks will have to be replaced in some capacity.

In lieu of the recent undertaking of organizing the draft by the BOG, I'd like to take a moment to remind you all to PLEASE KEEP TRACK OF YOUR DRAFT PICKS (PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD). Since most of you are outside the BOG, I don't think you realize how annoying and frustrating it is to have to scramble around a bunch of team pages and trade threads to find lost picks, only to realize that they've been traded multiple times or some other unforeseen circumstance. All I ask is that in the future, just track and control your draft picks.

Thanks...

Adding onto Dylan's post above, we have 7 other missing picks in 2019!

2nd VAN
2nd STL
3rd DAL
4th WSH
4th PHI
6th TOR
7th BOS

Especially for any GMs that created a page after May 19th, 2018 make sure you're not missing any picks that may have been traded by the team IRL or forgot to add when copying your team. And please for the love of everything holy and sacred, do not, and I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT CREATE A NEW PAGE WITHOUT THE TRADES FROM THE PREVIOUS PAGE AND OPT TO JUST ADD AND REMOVE ASSETS RANDOMLY. This is literally how 90% of picks and other assets are lost.

If any picks are still missing by the draft, they will simply be skipped.

Lastly, @A_K and @ricochetii, figure out which one of you own the 2019 5th COL.

Thanks,

Since we're on a poll kick, the BOG wants to get some GM feedback on ideas for the future of the game. Please respond to the poll and leave any comments you think would be helpful.

ATTENTION GMs:

Waiver claims, UFA signings, and any other type of player/player rights acquisitions are frozen until further notice. You will not be able to add overager/overseas/NCAA signings until the UFA period of the offseason. Thanks for your cooperation.

ATTENTION MEMBERS:

A majority of GMs voted to move to a full restart of the GM Game. The BOG is announcing v4, which will begin at the conclusion of the v3 Stanley Cup Finals. We have made this decision to satisfy the democratic majority, but we also understand that the goal of the GM Game is to create longevity – it is our intention to have v4 go on for multiple seasons. We thought we had created a sustainable model in v3 but the voting has shown that most people would like a fresh start.

V4 will begin with team assignments. Teams will be assigned randomly, using the current 31 GMs (unless anyone would like to opt out, in which case please notify me ASAP). Each GM will be assigned a team and will have a few days to swap teams if they can find a willing partner. These swaps must be ‘straight up’ – with no other incentives/game assets involved.

Teams will be created to use IRL rosters with a starting date in mid-May (official date TBD). Any signings/extensions that take place after this start date will not be recognized in the game.

We will keep the same schedule/timeline as proposed for v3.

An expansion draft will take place in May (teams will have roughly 1 week to make trades/buyouts and publish protection lists beforehand).

UFA and RFA extensions will take place in June/July.

The entry draft will take place in early June. IRL draft order will be used.

The rest of the rules will be provided shortly, but expect most things to follow suit with v3 rules (with more organization/clarity).

We will ask the Mods to archive v3 and it will become a remnant once v4 is underway.

Effective immediately, I will be stepping down from my role as a General Manager in this league.

Thanks to everyone for a great season, and I would especially like to thank the BOG for their hard work and commitment. It was a really fun time, as this is a well-run and very planned out league.

Sadly, my time is taken up by school, sports, and my personal life, and I do not believe that I have time to start over again. I was barely able to keep this going as is, and I know that my life will only be getting more busy as I move on through my final years of high school, especially with finding a job soon.

Good luck to all, I hope to see you all around CF, and will continue to be apart of this awesome community of hockey fans. Thanks again,
