Don't know if DET moves local kid Larkin but I think the value is fair

Nobody cares if the team has local kids on the team. They care if they put a good team on the ice.

Whether the value is fair is debatable but there is no way Detroit does this trade. It's addition by subtraction. Larkin is our future captain and potentially our number one center.

As a die hard Wings fan I think Larkin is a number two center. He is overrated by a lot of people. When you compare him to other number one center's in the league he would be at the bottom of the list. I also think Rasmussen has number one center potential. So trading Larkin is fine if we get a good young dman in return.

Your logic is flawed. We dont have a #2 center, so IF as you say Larkin is at best a #2 center, and Ras will be a #1 center, then right there is your #1 and #2 for the future. Trust me, Larkin is much better and is more valuable to this team than you give him credit for.

Z will be done playing in the next year or two, and if he does still play it will be in a reduced bottom 6 role, not a top 6. So that leaves Nielsen (old - will play bottom 6), Ras, and Larkin. Ras can be our #1 if he turns out better than Larkin, and Larkin will slot in at #2.

Young talented goalie prospects and young number one defensemen don't grow on trees. You have to give up something to get something.

Very True, but there is more that we can do, for instance if carolina drafts Andrei Svechnikov there might be interest in Evgeny, im sure we could work a deal for Hanifin, Bean, or Fleury, using players not named Larkin, by packaging Evgeny, + prospect + pick or something a long those lines.

Evgeni hasn't done anything and is looking like a bust.

He's still raw. Sure he had a stumble this last year, but showed the previous year in Grand Rapids.
Plus the intangible value of playing with his brother would be something the Canes would and should consider.
Playing with his brother on the same team would without a doubt elevate his play to his highest potential, that could be of serious value to the Hurricanes who have an over abundance of D prospects that they couldnt possibly keep them all, even in they did find a way to get them all on the roster they surely couldnt pay them the money they would all command. It's a win-win situation. Its just hypothetical, of course, but back to the original point, Larkin is much better than you give him credit for, if we can overhaul this team, he could easily put up 70-80 points.

He is a number three center on a Stanley Cup team.

I disagree. Maybe at his current level, but in a few more years of positive development he is easily a 2C on any team in the league.

Why does anyone think Hanifan is a # 1? He might be on the Red Wings, but he is no better than the third best Dman on the Canes.
