My idea (2 trades BUF and CAR)

Description
I saw the Pacioretty/Bean suggestion on another thread, and I liked it. I don't think Pacioretty gets us a good NHL ready player in a position that we need help in (C or LD1), so why not get a highly regarded prospect.

The BUF trade is a tough one to do, but if you want a good C1 or C2, you have to pay for it. Originally, I had Petry in this deal, but BUF already has Bogosian and Ristolainen at RD1&RD2 with lots of money invested in those 2, so they don't really have room for Petry on their roster. Alzer (at 3.1M$ cap hit after MTL retains 1.5M$) is an affordable gamble for BUF. If Alzner comes back to form, it's a big win for BUF.

After these moves, Habs have lots of cap space to make a huge offer to Tavares. 15M$ per season is alot of money, but it'll take more from MTL to get him here.

1. How about Fleury for patchs
2. Sabres would decline. ROR>Galchenyuk Scandella>Alzner, sabres retain more money just to move up 20 spots. This doesnt address their needs. ROR is only getting moved to free cap space for Tavares or because someone missed out on Tavares and is over paying for ROR
wojme liked this.

You need patchs and a first for Bean. He was invisible last season. It's why Skinner is in such little demand. Or his value isn't as high as normal. Bean is a bluechip prospect.

Pacioretty did indeed have a down year and his value has dropped as a result, but Bean has yet to play a single NHL game so no way would 1st be included with Pacioretty, especially since it will likely be top 5 or 10 for the next few years since Montreal has a lot of organizational needs.

I was more emphasising the drop in pacts value. I mean maybe add a third or a 4th and 5th or something like that. Bean is an NHL player when he gets here. Solid lefthanded offensive d-man. Canadian from Calgary. Makes a lot of sense but I would have expected you to go after Nicholas Roy as well because he's a NHL ready player an he's french-Canadian.

MTL is losing big time! No Zadina, no pacioretty, no Galchenyuk? You know you're giving away 100 of goals potential there ? Maybe more if Zadina becomes that Elite winger we all think he'll be.
All this for a 19 yo d prospect, who'll probably be in the AHL next years, and ROR who'll be useless without wingers. No, Byron and Lekhonen doesn't match Pacioretty's production. Drouin better be tough! ahaha and the other one wanted a 1st round pick with our captain! Ishhh...
The real offer I heard about is MTL going for Hanifin with Pacioretty, but again... that's because Zadina may replace him! Paciroretty's bad year doesn't count. His value hasn't dropped since october. He's still one of best LW in the league, sorry. Better keep him and make other teams regret not giving for him.

Five stars for wanting O'Reilly
Huge over payment for O'Reilly
Botterill will accept this trade before Bergevin changes his mind.
Montreal gets a better LHD and a better forward/center
Buffalo moves from 32nd over all to 3rd over all, more than makes up for the differences.

No cap space left and many young RFA's that need extended over the next 2 years (and no other contracts coming off the books). There is no way the habs can afford Tavares at $15M. Not to mention you traded there 3rd overall pick which is a terrible idea.

Sure, I did indeed trade the 3rd overall pick... but I addressed two needs with that deal: our lack of depth at C, and our lack of talent at LD. I'm not saying that Scandella is a prototypical LD1, but he's better "now" than any other option we have. By adding a "better LD than we already have", we automatically make our d-corps better. We are also trading away from a position of depth at LW when we deal Galchenyuk. We have Pacioretty. We have Drouin. We have Byron. We have Lehkonen. We have depth at LW.

BUF would think this over, I guarantee you that. A chance to draft 1 and 3 in the same year where the top 4 players in the draft are considered NHL ready? Come on folks. Not to mention, their C position is set for a long time with Eichel/Middlestadt/Reinhart. They'll want to surround those talented players with skill in order to give them a chance to succeed. After trading away Kane, they only have 2 wingers that scored 15 goals last season (Okposo, and Pomminville). Giving them a chance to add skilled players like Galchenyuk and Zadina-or-Tkachuk gives them instant skill on the wings and producing immediate dividends. Not to mention, they will have Dahlin add to their offense too.
