Description
Trying to keep it as realistic as possible. A small flare of what I would like to see and what I expect from a Bergevin perspective. Drouin ideally is not my #1C, however, do not see a scenario where one is available through trade or FA signing. Thought he took good strides in 2nd half of season as centerman.

Additional Details:
Calling a spade a spade. Pac will not garner a top C prospect. However, a desperate GM in Chiarelli might be looking for a quick fix like this. Ideally, Canadiens draft center Joe Veleno with this pick.

Make the DAL trade for 5th instead of 4th and this is probably the best Habs armchair-gm I've ever seen. Both trades and signings are reasonable, which is incredibly rare.

Great work.

This might be the best path for Montreal. They would have to overpay to acquire O'Reilly or Nugent-Hopkins (although Bjugstad might be cheaper but he's not a #1). Also I've read a lot of draft reports that say Veleno is NHL ready or close to it. He might be able to claim the third or fourth line pivot job coming out of camp.

Oilers don’t do this, I think Nuge’s recent chemistry with McDavid at the end of the season and at Worlds has led me to believe that he’s not as desperate as you think. Though you think I may be wrong, just know this, it’s been everywhere, insiders reported it, he has spoke on it, Oiler Exec’s have, he is lookin for a top defenseman and he will leak any assets he can into a trade to acquire one. So I think if they were in on Paccioretty, one of the best assets they have wouldn’t be on the table, Montreal would be better off dealing with another team that’s interested.

Chiarelli is better off packaging RNH for that Dman and getting a proper winger for McDangle. Whether that's Pacioretty or Hoffman or someone else, having a bonafide sniper there makes more sense than a repurposed centreman.

out of the playoffs, teams like oilers and panthers don't trade their # 1 picks for a one year rental. seems to be a constant and unwarranted theme by Canadien fans. deHaan has been injured in the past few years, there just might be safer values to sign

I feel the Oilers are in a different position than most teams. The pressure to win there with what they have makes me believe they will be willing to move that pick for an impact player. Chance to play with McDavid can make any rental re-sign. Pac has a good center to feed him, he's hitting 35 again. De Haan was simply because he is a young UFA, puck moving D where you do not need to move any assets.

I have heard the same and I do agree. I can see it going the route of a winger if a defenseman like Faulk or Tanev isn't available to them. If JT does stay in Long Island maybe we go one or two spots down with them if that is the case and send Pac to his hometown.
