Chucky-RNH straight up, maybe. This doesn't get a sniff.

You're gonna need more than that to pry Spurg away.

No I was hyperbolic to emphasize how skewed the trade was in favor of Edmonton.

10ao+ Caleb Jones isn't a bad return (value-wise) for Spurgeon: injury prone (misses an average of 12 games a year), undersized, $5m contract (fair, but not a bargain) in his prime, 2 years of team control, never topped 40p in a season, concern he's a by-product of Suter an elite defender. The trade doesn't make much sense for MN unless they are going into a miss the Playoffs rebuild/retool season.

Spurgeon isn't worth what most Wild fans want for him. He's not even in the top-5 of what could be available d-men: EK, OEL, Trouba, Dumba, Hanifin, Hamilton, Carlson (UFA), Green (UFA), Risto.

Most of these trade would not happen. Edmonton does not trade a goalie they just signed, No way Calgary takes Russel, no way Edmonton trades for Reinhart again and Edmonton has no need of Galchenyuk. RNH is a way better defence forward who gets around the same number of points as Galchenyuk. His overall pts per game is higher. The other trades are possible.

RNH averages roughly 19 minutes a game. Galchenyuk averages 15:30 minutes. If you actually look at their career averages, and uses a more accurate metric in pts/60min rather than Pts/game. Galchenyuk is higher. But I will agree that RNH is the better defender. Chucky is the bigger offensive threat, RNH is a more well rounded player.

MTLs 2nd rd pick this year is basically a 1st (35th overall). Remove that one and I’d say value is fair. I still wouldn’t do it because RNH would be the default #1 C for the Habs, when he was that for EDM he was terrible. If MTL somehow manage to get a #1 C, I’d consider it. RNH as a #2 C looks good in my books.

As a Wild fan, he's definitely better than Dumba (though Dumba isn't too far behind).

It's not just about being better. Dumba is still young and has a ton of team control left as RFA this year and still looks like he has room to grow. Spurgeon is who he is as a player at this point (a fine player in his own right), but his contract (money/term), injury history, and size make his value lower than say Dumba.

A team with a 2 year window would want Spurgeon over Dumba, but everyone else will want Dumba as a core piece for long term.
