Players on LTIR do not affect a teams cap, so why do Hawks give up a first rounder? No reasons. Seems like a lot to give up for a one year rental of EK.

The Hossa trade is baffling. Honestly, looking at that might have just given me a headache, the creator of this post is now banned from viewing any further Blackhawks games in person or through other means.

It does effect the cap still at 5.275 million. It makes perfect sense.

Karlsson trade is a win now move. Big addition to that struggling blue line.

It doesn’t save anything, in fact all it simply dumps a dead contract with the number 8 overall pick for.... what exactly? The Blackhawks aren’t in a position to be in win now mode. They need to retool, and keeping young guys like Saad, DeBrincat, and possibly Brady Tachuck is nessisary for long term success.

We can LTIR Hossa once the season begins, or trade it to a team that needs to hit the cap floor for little to no cost to us.

A team isn't going to take a big cap hit for nothing. And I think you guys should be in win now mode with Kane and Toews

We can easily do what we’ve been doing with his contract this year, aka putting him on LTIR once the season begins. Hossa is owed 1million dollars a year for the next 3 years and has a inflated cap hit of 5.3 million. A team who doesn’t like to spend a lot of money, and is struggling to hit the cap floor, like Arizona would love to have Hossas cap hit on their books.

Well the NHL need to prevent trades like that then to keep teams from being bad. And making them spend to the floor with real players.

Sorry, it doesn't. Leafs had Lupul and Horton all last year, and there cap limit did not from 75.0 to 64.5m. Teams do not get cap punished for having injured players ..
I know we are going to see a sleuth of meaningless trades with Hossa and other players on LTIR. It's knowing the rules of LTIR or IR that should be learned but , if folks wants to keep ignoring the rules, just keep on making bad posts.

Just a note on the cap floor. I don't know of any team this year that actually will have trouble going above floor once they sign their RFAs.

You are correct, the Coyotes would be willing to take on a LTIR to help them reach the cap floor. But they likely going to easily reach the floor this year anyway, unless they go in a selling mode.
And to the Hawks there is no benefit or harm having Hossa on LTIR. The only difference it makes it make change the year when performance bonuses are paid.
