Only the NHL and AHL count.
Also, if the NMC is in its final year of the contract, the the player is set to become a UFA July 1st, they do not need to be protected.

Thanks for the info!

IRL he would still have to be protected, because the M-NTC wouldn't begin till July 1st.

I don't think the ultimate answer to this question will ever stop being disputed. Tuukka Rask's NMC turned into an NTC on July 1st of 2017, but he was still not a force-protect (even though the B's protected him anyway). So @alwaysnextyear, the debate on this answer will continue.

If it is in the final year of the NMC it does not need to be protected.
What is confusing Kayla?

I should have made it clear in the other post, it isn't expressivily NMC-> UFA.
It is any contract where the NMC is in the final year.

Oh I thought you meant just NMC -> UFA. My bad.

Yeah, I realized my wording was bad.
Should note: If it is a NMC in the final year going into a NTC or a M-NTC.
The player still may need to be protected if they have an expressive clause stating they must be protected.
I don't know if, or how many players have that.

So Backes is still a bit of a question mark on this then. His NMC ends this season and changes to a M-NTC, but where would I find out (for our game purposes) if he has a clause stating he must be protected in expansion?

I doubt he does. I don't think anyone does has that clause yet, but future contracts may have them.

Due to the expansion draft, the off-season trade limit will be increased from 12 trades to 16 trades.
The Quebec expansion team will not have any trade limit for the off-season.
The off-season is considered to start as soon as the playoff trade freeze is over and go until August 31st.

Can non-playoff teams make trades as soon as the playoffs start, and count towards off-season limit?
Because in real life that would be allowed.

Alright then. I'll list Backes without the NMC for expansion purposes, and if anyone has an issue with me not protecting him they can let me know.

The BOG discussed this, but decided against it because we'd rather people put there time into thoroughly looking at all the playoff match-ups to ensure the best results.

For the purpose of expansion you use the clause from the previous season, so Backes does need to be protected in expansion.

So we don't follow the NHL way?

But since we've basically eliminated the NMC from our game, how can we need to follow them for upcoming expansion.
The example from my team would be Johnny Boychuk.
Currently has a NMC that turns into a M_NTC next year, so basically July 1st
So the question becomes, does he need auto protection in our game for expansion?
I think the answer is NO, but I don't make the in game rules.

I talked to Johnny Boychuk's agent, Gerry Johannson from The Sports Corporation, and he has confirmed with me that Johnny is willing to waive his current NMC for the purpose of being exposed in the upcoming expansion draft.

I'm wanting to ramp it up and get deals done for Holden, Fantenberg, and Talbot. Send offers and let's get a deal done ASAP.

Also, this has been brought up before but i don't think any decision was made (or at least i missed it). Can trades not involving Quebec be made between the SCF and expansion draft?

What? I was under the impression that we’d have chances to trade with other teams to better our expansion position.

idk, I am not the BOG.

I was under the impression that we can only make trades/deals with Quebec post playoffs.

the trade freeze is lifted at the end of playoff voting. Teams can make offseason trades with any team before the XD.

Maybe a dumb thought/question... But are we going to allow Kayla to sign all the good NCAA players or are we all waiting for Nico Sturm?
