I find it hard to believe that you won't be able to sign these guys for a lot cheaper then what you have here, but the answer is pretty simple, trade guys that you don't feel are vital to your team's success and draft well to replace them

Most likely the Jets won’t sign back Stastny. Given his age they would likely be able to secure the rest of the team long term by doing that.

A lot of your signings are too high and the jets are not keeping all of their free agents

Ok nice - We'll sub in an entry level contract for Stastny. Now you're only $15,000,000 over the cap....explain how the rest of the team is secured?

no they are not in serious cap problems. teams just can't sign free agents like myers and statsny to big contrast if they are in cap trouble. just because a team has upcoming ufas, they aren't entitled to signing them, and therefor don't cap problems. myers at 7m for six years is waste. not signing statsny.....you knew he was an upcoming ufa when he was traded. saves another 6m on this post. so there is 13m saved. even trouba seems destined for free agency which is his choice

I agree with both of your player selections:

- Stastny is likely to walk this summer (was never in the long term plan).
- Myers seems likely to be the odd man out (we can't re-sign everyone).

But that wouldn't save $13 million - it would save $11 million at most (they'll have to be replaced & the replacements will likely cost more than $1 million each).

So were still $9 million over the cap (or more) - Whats the next step in solving the problem?

- We could replace Trouba with an ELC - but we'd still be $3 million over the cap (and our RD would be horrible)

One more step would be required to get under the cap:

- Letting Wheeler walk is an option.
- Trading Perreault or Little is an option (but it may not shed enough cap).
- Trading Ehlers or Connor is an option (they'd get a better return).

Anyways, the end result will be losing a few core players & replacing them with fringe players.

- Will be still be cup contenders without Stastny, Myers, Trouba & Wheeler? (for example)

Solutions? Some players have playing value but not much trading value. As suggested Myers and Stastny are almost guaranteed to leave as UFA. Can Perrault and his contract be "given away" to another team. Jets seems to lots of wingers that can take his place, so if Perrault can be traded without any cap in returned in a trade, might be one answer that would save 3m. Same with Mason, would a team take him for free?
Little is another player who I don't like long term with his contract. Would a team kinda of desperate at centre take his contract, such as the Canes....again the return to the Jets isn't the issue, it's getting free cap space to sign for players you really want.

Settle down bud, it really isn’t that hard to get the Jets under the cap if you stop signing ridiculous contracts.

Man you really think that WPG regrets that Little extension. That kind of has albatross written all over it.

If that's what it costs to keep Wheeler, I'd let him walk. Laine is a phenomenal goal scorer, but I'd be terrified giving him 10 mil a year. Connor should be 5 million at the most. You could trade Lowry, who although solid. would not seem as valuable making 3 million a year. Jets will figure it out, and at the least, enjoy this stacked team while it lasts!!

Yeah - my contracts are on the higher end of the scale.....

But even if you take $1,000,000 off each big signing - the Jets are still $13,000,000 over the cap.

And I doubt they'll be able to get:

1) $9,000,000 for Laine (after Eichel got $10,000,000)
2) $5,000,000 for Hellebuyck (after a Vesina nomination)
3) $5,000,000 for Stastny (after a PPG since the trade)
4) $6,000,000 for Connor (after he's leapfrogged Ehlers).

I could go on....

And the caps going go up by about $6,000,000 this year - so you should factor in an 8% raise for all new contracts vs last years contracts (assuming identical performance).

So Ehlers would be getting $6,500,000 if he signed right now & close to $7,000,000 if he signed next summer.

Good luck shaving off that $20,000,000 my friend....I'm sure every superstar wants to give a 50% hometown discount....
