the You Probably Shouldn't Bother Asking list

Created by: Viqsi
Team: 2018-19 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: May 22, 2018
Published: May 22, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Players that the Blue Jackets will not trade unless we are getting back a demonstrably, objectively better player at that same position and at the same or better salary/contract situation back. Or, "blatantly obvious upgrades only".

Folks end up on this list due to scarcity and/or skillset and/or positional need considerations. Severity is a tad variable since ACGM requires a minimum of 10 players - some negotiations are possible with a few, but in particular the universal answer to just about any trade offer for Panarin, PLD, Werenski, or Jones is going to range (based on the quality of your offer) from "no thanks" to "**** off and die".

Honorary Mentions:
Josh Anderson (we really really like him)
Joonas Korpisalo (he's a capable backup, so we'd want good value)
one of Dean Kukan or Ryan Murray (one or the other, not both)
(Savard and Bjorkstrand were at the top of this list, but were added to get the total to 10)

Technically, Bob could have been an Honorable Mention, but realistically, he's worth more to us than he would be on the market so it ends up turning out more or less the same. Similar considerations exist for Nutivaara.

Eeeeeeehnnh I wouldn't be hanging up on anyone who wanted to talk about Bob, Savard or Atkinson. For the right deal those guys should be movable.

Not sure I agree on any of the 3.
Bob has got them further than they have ever been before, albeit just average in the playoffs.
RHD are so hard to come by, Savard is very serviceable as a 2nd pair D.
As for Atkinson, the last 3 years he has 86 G / 75 A / 161 Points in 227 games.
He is really starting to bring his point total up (he was hurt for almost 1/4 of the season in 2018 which hurt his production).
I think he is becoming untouchable. Just imagine CBJ if they find a 2nd line with the same production as the top line of Panarin, Dubois & Atkinson???

I wasn't saying it to say they aren't good and they should be traded at the first offer. Just saying that if the right offer came along, they shouldn't be turning GM's down before they get to make a pitch.

- Atkinson put up good numbers a couple years ago but at age 28 you can't be turning down good offers to get younger options. Of course it has to be a worthy offer.
- Bobrovsky is going to command Carey price numbers soon. be prepared for that. 10M+. If the Jackets are a 1 round and done team with the best goalie in the game right now, maybe they need to tackle other areas of need with the assets they'll get for Bob and down grade in nets. They'll need big money to resign Panarin, Werenski and Dubois soon enough.
- Savard isn't a bad player by no means but with other youth coming long to potentially move him down a spot, you want to get value while his value is high.

In theory anyone should be available if the offer is right but those guys I mentioned given their age and where the team is at currently shouldn't be untouchable.

Minimum 10 players. Explained why those first two guys were included in the description. As for Atkinson... well, frankly, we need more of that ability, not less.

Ok, i see what youre saying. I truly believe Bob will not try to break the bank. He knows the more he makes the less talent they will have in front of him.
He has already made $7.4m now for several years. I would think he would be happy staying & finishing what he started., with the team that gave him his big chance. 8m-8.5m

If he does, awesome. Just remember Carey Price could of did the same thing, especially coming off an injured season. Bobrovsky will want to get paid just like anyone else. His allegiance to Columbus isn't necessarily rock solid. Plenty of good teams missing a top end goalie that could pay big bucks.
