IMO, this trade is good but you could try and get them to take the contract of Zajac if you throw in an additional pick, maybe a 2nd in 2019 as well?

Funny you say that. I had him in the trade when I first did it, but didn't know what Sabres fans would think.

I'm not sure JBot would agree. We need left wingers in the top 6 and probably the defender in the top 4. Although I like Zacha and Kinkaid, but...

five stars for wanting O'Reilly
I think I would make this trade, I am happy that you decided to include the 2019 first round pick, I am certain that O'Reilly will lead the Devils as effectively as he led the Sabres to the last place over all. It would be so cool if Botterill could make the moves to make the Sabres a play off team, win the Stanley cup and then the devils won the lottery. awesome face

Let's break this trade down:

1. NJ 2019 1st Round pick will probably be in the 20th - 25th pick.... compare that to the Buffalo 2019 3rd round pick which will be in the 67th to 72nd advantage Buffalo though not as big of an advantage when your ears hear a 1st vs 3rd Round pick;

2. Kinkaid is in the last year of his contract at $1,250,000..... the Sabres can sign a FA goalie in which is does not cost them anything in a trade or assets..... Kinkaid has a zero maybe even negative value in the trade from a Sabres viewpoint;

3. ROR compared to Zacha..... ROR is of greater value today and probably for the next 2-3 years at which point Zacha should be of greater value..... advantage NJ for this part of the deal;

In summary the deal does not work for the Sabres as it is currently constructed.....

How do we make it work you say..... well the lets go this route:

1. Remove Kinkaid from the deal and add Miles Wood or Jesper Bratt;
2. Change the Buffalo pick to the 4th Round 2019;

I have previous stated a negative opinion on Miles Wood but I have since realized that I was completely wrong.

Dude...
No way Jose

Kinkaid- we can sign a backup quality goalie for free
Coleman- we have guys coming up who can fill a 3rd line role, he has no value, none

The 1st is ok, but Zacha just hasn’t done much at all with u guys (2yrs, 16 total goals) to think that he can be the main piece who gets O’Reilly

U gotta remember...
you guys won’t be the only team calling on O’Reilly

I don’t even think we will trade him
But if we did...
there’s no way that offer is the best we’d get
Probably not even close

I dont get why everyone thinks O'Reilly is Crosby 2.0...
ROR is a good two way player who wins faceoffs and can get 60 points.
Do I think they can get more? Yes. Do I think they are gonna get way more? No.
I would think adding Wood instead of Coleman would be fair.
Kinkaid is good, ya you can sign a back up, but your spending more than Kinkaid's contract. This if he plays well, you keep him, if not, you go for one of the many quality FA goalies next year.
