Why even trade one of Caps´best defenders in Niskanen for something as low as a 3rd rounder when you have the cap space to keep him?

I like the Grubauer trade but you´d have to give up something or take a contract back to trade Orpik.

because he has a big cap hit for 3 years and they should have cap space for free agency

That Niskanen trade is awful for the Caps
