The Crosby-Malkin window is open for 2-3 more years, and the best idea you could come up with was to trade away the next two best players for nothing that will help in the next 2-3 years?

If you have vegas calling pitt asking for letang and they mention a 1st which is going to be a late pick and a 4th GMJR laughs and hangs up.

Maybe, but not many teams win Cups when their core are beyond 32-33. Pens have some young guys surrounding them, but you can't just count on them as a legitimate contender by then the way they are now. I'm not saying they won't win it again beyond that, but it's a lot less likely.

Most teams core aren't generational/franchise players. I wouldn't count them out until they start declining, which they haven't yet. Only their injuries can close their window, which is likely based on their pasts

Ok, let's talk generational players and their last Cup:
Gretzky - 27
Lemieux - 26
Orr - 24
Jagr - 20
Yzerman - 36

Obviously, Yzerman is the exception to the rule, which is why I say Pittsburgh could still potentially win beyond the next 2-3 years, but that 2002 Detroit team had 10 future Hall of Famers on it, so it wasn't a typical scenario.
