Thats a lot to pay for a one-dimensional winger.

I'd love JVR, but we just don't have the cap space.

I said the same thing on a post about us signing Kovalchuk. We don’t have the cap space to go after free agents. We need to split those Phaneuf and Brown contracts yesterday, at almost any cost. The fact that we signed Brown for that much to begin with is insane.

We really don't, but if we move a defense man like he did it could be a possibility. We also have Brickley and Clague coming up in the next couple years and they could fill that void.

There's no gaurentee that they'll be NHL ready by then or even NHL defensemen at all. Getting rid of Martinez, Muzzin, Doughty, or Phaneuf would be stupid. We've haven't fully recovered from the loss of Voynov.

Brickley was a highly sought after college free agent and already burned a year of his only offered 2 year elc contract. That stands to reason management, especially Blake, has plans for him to be very involved with the team going forward. LaDue is Martninez's natural replacement and you are going to have to make some sacrifices and take some risks to enhance overall offense and competition. Winning the Jennings trophy and scoring 3 goals in the playoffs still isn't the recipe for success.

Maybe JVR is not the answer but he is a consistent 30 goal scorer and a big body to play next to Kopitar and Brown. Plus he is available this off-season.
