I don't get it. Why does the 5th best offense trade for another forward when defense is the biggest hole? If you are looking to flip Patches, the Islanders aren't the target.

So Montreal gets the #8 and #11 pick, Chicago gets the #12, and the Islanders trade away both of their 1st round picks to land Pacioretty, a goalie that put up a sub .900 SV% in the AHL, and the #38 pick?

The Islanders laugh at all of this and hang up before the deal is even offered. They have two picks that could potentially land them two of Smith, Wilde, Kotkaniemi, Veleno, Kupari, or Farabee. Trading both of those picks is absolutely not worth what they are getting in return. They have a decent, young team, but need to continue to build their prospect pool. They aren't trading away two huge pieces of their future for a top-6 LW, an unproven goalie, and a 2nd round pick. Only way they trade any of their 1st round picks is if they get a 1st round pick in return. These trades are absolutely terrible for the Islanders.
