I don't think the Leafs would accept that. Let me make a suggestion on a counter offer: D Nikita Zaitsev, RW Connor Brown and 2018 1st round (25th overall) from TOR for C Pavel Zacha, D Damon Severson and 2018 1st round (17th overall) from NJ. It would make little to no sense for the the Leafs to simply trade low on a defenceman who had a bad year on what could be a very reasonable contract unless they were still getting reasonable value. Otherwise, they'd simply hang on to Zaitsev and keep their fingers crossed he will bounce back quickly.

funny that both team's fans don't like the trade for totally different reasons. I'm a leafs fan, and I think Brown, 25 and a third for 17 is pretty fair, but I'm not sure either team does that

I like Kapanen but a lot of people are quick to give up on Zacha and call him a bust. I would prefer to see him play the next 3-4 years and not trade him now. I wouldnt mind trading down for the right package but trading Zacha at this point makes no sense.

Are Devils fans calling him a bust? I like him and think he is a great candidate to have a breakout year this upcoming season. Only issue is that he needs to be used in the right situations.

So true @beanie2911 :P I wold think though that based on a lot of the mock drafts I am seeing, the Leafs will stand pat with the possibility of both Ryan McLeod and Jared McIssac being available to the Leafs at pick 25. Perhaps they acquire a second 1st rounder around that same area and draft both? Would be highly interesting and definitely help to keep our prospect pool deep and rich.

Many people are calling him a bust unfortunately, I think he is very close to putting it together and having a real productive season.
