I agree, not bad trades. MTL will have to slightly overpay to get players to come to a media hot-bed, and also a higher tax situation. That being said, all players are paid in USD so living in Canada most of the year does give players some advantages with the exchange rate.
If Tavares isn't going to resign with the NYI, his deal will have to have a higher AAV to factor in the lost year of signing eligibility (because MTL didn't draft him). If he leaves, you got to think his deal is between 11-12 million AAV. Is he worth that much? That's another question (I think he's closer to 10 million than 11-12 million), but because he's heading into free-agency as the head of the class someone will overpay.
