Kessel To NYI (82 million salary projection)

Created by: Arom5477
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2018
Published: Jun. 4, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kessel Trade Details (***Contingent on if he wants to go there***) :

Kessel -for- Pulock (RD; 10G, 22A, 32P)+ Beauvillier (LW, 21G, 15A, 36P **Still Entry-Level***) + 2018 1st round pick + 2018 2nd round pick
Sheary + Zach Aston-Reese + 2019 2nd round pick -for- Brock Nelson
RFA Rights to Tristan Jarry -for- 2018 2nd round pick

Notes:

The main goal of the NYI is to keep Tavares through enticing signings and/or trades. Trading for Kessel, and their rumored interest in Ilya Kovalchuk, should make it quite easy for John Tavares to lean heavily stay.

Also, I believe the NYI are still in a "I want to win-now mode", therefore losing younger players in an effort to get a superstar would not go against any organizational philosophy. (i.e. Beauvillier and Pulock).

Sheary + Zach-Aston Reese would (hopefully...they are good in the right situations) replace some production lost on NYI end.

Jarry would provide the goaltender the Isles have been hoping for and would eventually be their #1 goaltender.

Pulock could eventually take Schultz's place in the lineup when Schultz eventually moves on in free agency.

More forwards aren't the answer for the Islanders. Trading our number 2 (top 4 on another team) defenseman, Beau and 1st and not getting top pairing D in return sets this team back even further. While Kessel would be nice, he doesn't fill a hole and sending that package the other way strips us of assets that can be used to fill the holes.

I understand. However, what do you think Tavares would say if he got to play with Kessel AND Kovalckuk? I think it'd be, "Sign me up!"

And then he looks and his defense and goalie and goes, yeah probably not. Already has a 40 goal scorer on one wing and almost a PPG winger on the other side. Then we need to talk to Barzal and tell him why we traded his best friend, so he probably jumps ship. Offense isn't the problem. Kessel is a luxury player for the Islanders. Letang and Maata are better fits, but they probably aren't going for that package.

Fair enough. What would your rebuttal trade be? ***With relatively the same core structure***

No rebuttal trade unless lee or eberle is the main piece going back, 0 need for a winger

A lot of that. You are looking at Lee/Eberle + 1st 2018/Bellows as the core pieces. Fill with Dal Colle or Ho Sang (boooo I know), d prospect (Toews, Van Somple, Aho, Salo) and filler picks. Islanders need to deal from surplus, that is it. Top 6 Wingers, Picks, and B level prospects.
