No. Heiskanen has very realistic potential to be an annual Norris contender and a franchise defenseman. I'm not comparing him to McDavid in regards to production, but he has the potential to have the impact on Dallas' defense that McDavid has had on Edmonton's offense. Dallas isn't going to move him unless they are getting a young, franchise player in return. In the short term, it may be a fair deal, but in the long run Dallas comes out behind on this deal. Heiskanen is with Benn, Seguin, and Klinbgerg in the fact that he's an untouchable right now.

Grabner isn't worth $3.75 million. he's worth more like $3 million and also Sheary leaving is another possibility and bringing in Domi is also a possibility. Dallas doesn't really need kessel when the have Seguin already and giving up heiskanen is a bit much since he is Dallas' future

I like how you think Heiskanen isn’t enough. You also need to add a couple 2nd’s?

I'm sure buffalo would love to retain salary on a trade while also accepting a $4 million dollar a year winger who scores 10 goals a year.

Will you stop signing Neal to fill the hole left by a terrible Kessel trade? He was moved for a reason, Rutherford didn't want him for a reason, and he has no reason to want to come back. You trade one "problem" for another, save no money, and usually get peanuts in a trade of a guy who just topped 90 points. Its pointless, stupid, and repetitive.

And stop giving Sheahan hundreds of thousands less than his QO. There's zero reason to expect a paycut for him.

Yeah I understand wanting Heiskanen for Kessel, and I wouldn't really want anything else from him from a Pitt point of view, but DAL just isn't really in a position to trade it's top prospect in years for Kessel. I think with the new coach and new style, it wouldn't be a great fit for Phil. I think if a trade between these two involving Phil was to go down this is what it would look like, but I just don't think these two teams are great trading partners.

No matter how good he might eventually be, one unproven prospect really isn't enough for a guy who's been at the top of his position for a decade. Pittsburgh is on a very tight clock for their best players and cannot afford a major short-term downgrade like this. Assuming Heiskanen jumps right to the NHL in 2018 and settles into a fully trusted top-4 role by the time he's 21, Crosby and Malkin will be on the doorstep of retirement. Unless he jumps onto a pairing with Letang and cruises at 22+minutes a night before the end if the season, Pittsburgh loses this trade.

By that logic: Are you saying a 19 year old prospect that has never stepped foot in the NHL, let alone North American ice, is of equal value to a 92 point producer and one of the best wingers in the NHL?

I think it will take more to get AA from Detroit and if he is playing 4th line wing it isn't worth it.
If Kessel does get traded it can't just be for a top prospect that hasn't played an NHL game yet. The Pens are still in that Cup window and a 19yr old that may not be able to handle the game and contribute a lot right away isn't what they need. You need a package that includes a top 9 forward or solid defenseman with picks and/or a good prospect. It will take a team a lot to get kessel.
