Flames w/ Montreal, Tampa, small FA

Created by: KH44
Team: 2018-19 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 11, 2018
Published: Jun. 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) Trade Stone to Tampa for a 4th round pick. Tampa needs a right shot defenseman, Stone fits the bill, Flames have young players pushing and need the roster spot. Stone is a 5th d with a booming shot that can move into the top 4 effectively when needed.
2) Brodie for Galchenyuk. Brodie is the left shot D Montreal needs, Galchenyuk is the top six winger Calgary needs, both have term and maybe a change of scenery. Brodie has a history of being a great partner to a top dman, and is a good puck mover. Flames need a winger for the top line. Salaries are similar as well.
3) Franson is signed to put a veteran in press box while the young guys play, and can step in effectively. 4)Derek Ryan slots in at 3C, and pushes Janko to 4C. Nick Shore can slot in when needed. Ryan, Bennett and Ferland make an effective third unit, and the young guns line can push them for time.
Flames improve in small steps, use their defensive depth and cap space to acquire some forward depth, and move into the year with $12 million in room to add if they feel it is necessary, keeping in mind that Brouwer can be bought out next year for cheap, and Tkachuk will need to be re-signed, as well as a goalie.
Would Dallas give up a pick to get rid of Spezza? Flames could stick him in the pressbox or in the bottom six, and use the cap space next year.

Flames don't need Galchenyuk. One dimensional LHS forward.

Flames need top six wingers. A 24 yr old top six winger with term is what they need, and he fits the bill. That said, we could chase others. Who else fits the bill?

But Galchenyuk is a natural centerman who just happened to play wing on a terrible Habs team.

The Habs are desperate for centers and played him there for years and it didn't work. The NHL is full of centers who shifted to the wing because it doesn't have the defensive responsibilities, which frees up Galchenyuk. He is a winger who people wanted to play center, not the other way around. Next to Monahan and Gaudreau, he wouldn't have the pressure to create everything and would probably flourish.
