Realistic off-season (with Tavares)

Description
Hard to say realistic off-season while including getting Tavares in that but if JT wants to leave NYI its to a) get paid while also b) being on a contender. The team as constructed below cannot be argued to be giving him both and it's not likely that's changing any time soon with the way the roster is built and while still getting 11M per.

Trades:

a late 1st for Myers to fill a need for TOR without giving up any of their young players (even if Myers isn't re-signed yet) is well worth it for a whole season.

Perrault + that 1st likely gets NYI to bite and part with one of their 2 x 1sts (the later of the two).

Little to MTL for a 2019 2nd and 4th is fair value for a team dying for experienced C's especially if they miss out on Tavares and Stastny (which they likely do).

Future:

The team on paper looks very solid. Has to hope Kulikov has a good year and can be traded next off-season for CAP reasons if they have any hope of keeping Wheeler. Connor likely will need a bridge deal regardless because of what Laine stands to make. May not be able to keep Wheeler unless he takes a hometown discount but WPG is deep at wing and needs a C. WPG will have the 5.6M in CAP space + Masons 4.1M coming off the books. A CAP increase of 2+M will also help (if it happens) but moving Kulikov and replacing him with Samberg or Morrow next year would allow for the 3 to stay even with raises and having that ridiculous Forward depth.
At 12 draft BPA preferably RHD to replace Buff in 3 years.

If only this dream were possible!

Love but Tavares coming to wpg pretty slim chances just on no movement clauses needed to move and kids to resign I don’t believe Chevy has that much magic but one can always dream

Yikes. Just...yikes.

I think TOR plays ball, but they have their own salary situation to deal with (Nylander, Matthews, Marner), and Myers isn't cheap. Worth it, but not cheap. Dubas probably finds a way to make it work.

MTL plays ball. They've got picks to spare and then some, and Little probably slots in on the 2nd line.

NYI is the tightest one I think. Perreault is a guy they'd be very interested in adding to the middle 6. But it might require an extra 4th rounder or more to get them to move back to #25 from #12 (yes, they also have #11, but that gives them two great chances to scoop up any players that might slip down).

Well thought out.

TO doesn't have salary concerns, at least not yet and they shouldn't if they stick to their plan. They have only reasonable contracts (Martin's isn't really good but it's not a big problem) and their core can be locked up for 8 years with little trouble. Teams who are in salary trouble, are ones who have guys in their mid to late 20's looking for huge contracts but they've used up their cap space on over priced roll players. The best way to build a winner? Stay the hell away from free agents. I do like the Myers trade, a 1st straight up, and then resign him for 4 years at 5 a piece or something like that. He's a good defenceman but he's not better than Rielly so he won't make more than he does.

I like the thought of getting Tavares but I think I would rather them resign Stastny. Even if he signed a 7 million deal you could afford to keep Myers this upcoming year and then let him walk at the end of the year. Plus you would have 4 million more to go towards the Laine Wheeler Connor contracts next year.

Tavares-Scheif for 7 years for 4M more is WELL WORTH the price of admission. Myers replaced by Poolman I think is offensively a net negative as Myers is great offensively but a net positive defensively as Poolman has been really good in his own end. I'd take that trade off to get Tavares over Stastny any day of the week!
