FIlling All the Team's Holes

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 12, 2018
Published: Jun. 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not enough cap space. It's also just asking for at least one terrible contract that will further restrict them from locking up Schmaltz and Debrincat long term.

Seabs can't handle 1st line minutes.

Hossa's entire contract will be relieved from LITR when done correctly.

Sikura is not a center and not on the 4th line.

Tanner Kero is not playing in the NHL, he's done.

You WAY overvalued Hino and Duclair each by $1M.

Saad plays on the LW and Perron on the RW.

Cat plays on the right.

You have $3M in cap space if you handle Hossa right and sign Hino and Duclair correctly.

Why is Hossa any different from Franzen, Horton, Clarkson, etc?

The Hawks can be up to 10% over the cap ($8m at $80M cap) as long as they have a player going on LITR day 1 of the season for the entire season. So in this case, the Hawks can be $5.2M over the cap day 1 in exchange for putting Hossa on LITR day one. It is prorated, so 99% of Hossa's contract goes on LITR.

Again — how is this any different from Franzen, Horton and Clarkson?

I'm not familiar with their situations, but I can tell you, every professional writer and everyone here knows how I said it's getting handled. Hossa is retiring and the league is supporting the use of full LITR and his contract only costs $1M despite a $5.2M cap hit.

Assuming you're looking at those teams' current CF pages, LTIR cap relief only takes place when a team is over the cap. And none of those teams are above the cap, so those players are listed as counting against the cap.
