After today, I think it's pretty obvious that basically any sane free agent will stay as far as possible from Ottawa. The team is a trainwreck.

Only way to convince Melnyk to sell the team is just basically force him to do it by making it financially devastating to keep it.

Just do it like Atlanta Thrashers did.

the only difference is Ottawa is a good market full of passionate fans who want so badly to love this team. If they ended up like the Thrashers I'd be so upset.

they need to do what the Leafs did. A new owner needs to come in and gut the entire organization. Someone who is going to have a clear vision going forward of what this team is. whether that is a rebuilder or a contender I don't care, as long as there is a plan.

The reality is Melnyk is not going to sell the team, and this team is going to continue to float like a rudderless boat.

I was trying to think of this yesterday....what is the biggest UFA to sign in Ottawa in the team's history? A quick google search suggested Ron Tugnutt but wondering if sens fans have some better signings to point to.

Not entirely blaming the fanbase...but not filling an arena for the conference finals doesn't scream 'good market'. I get that the location of the arena sucks and that a large demographic is government employees who cannot accept tickets as gifts from vendors...but I can see where Melnyk is coming from....if he's bankrolling a team that goes to the ECF and fans still aren't showing up...why would you put more money into the team?
