event that isn't enough talent for the upcoming season. plus with oel new contract and all the rfa to be signed the cap would exceeded in 2019/20. Tavares isn't travelling west for that money and jvr he can be avoided.

I see what you're trying to do here but the money and term are off for a lot of these guys. Teams can't just sign a bunch of FAs and expect to be a competitor the next year. They have to grow from within and through the draft. That's how every cup winner in the last 10 years has built their team. Yes they've made key trades and signings (Chicago getting Vermette in 2015 or LA getting Carter in 2012) but the core group of guys that help win those cups are developed through the draft, their time with the farm teams, and years of putting them in the right situations to not rush their progress. Minnesota comes to mind when I see this setup with how they signed Parise and Suter and made trades for short-term guys like Hanzal. Although what you've presented fills a lot of gaps for the Coyotes, the point made earlier about next year's setup with all the RFAs is going to be very difficult. Teams just don't win like this.

While I was a little caught off guard by the OEL extension talks, there is no way Arizona could reel in all the big fish of this offseason's UFA market. Arizona needs to do a rebuild the right away, and signing veteran guys to long term big deals who are already in their primes makes no sense whatsoever. At the same time, I am sure guys like Tavares and Carlson want to win and win now and that's not a position Arizona is in and may not be in for some time.

I agree with everything you all are saying. Wishful thinking obviously. I'm moving from DC to Arizona and hoping the team stays in Phoenix.
