Future is pretty set + have a huge amount of assets to trade for a big player if we ever wanted to(unlikely with the stacked 2019 FA class).
Work with me a bit on the OTT trade. Curious as to what else can be thrown back to OTT(if anything) to even out the deal. Gonna guess OTT would want a D prospect for sure, lmk.
CHI trades Teravainen(Top Prospect at time) + 1 Year of Bickel @ $4 mil to CAR for a 2nd Round Pick + 3rd Round Pick
Logic for Brouwer + Fox
Brouwer makes $4.5 mil for the next TWO seasons + Fox, although a good prospect, hasn't played in the NHL yet(unproven) whereas Teravainen had already played a little in he NHL and showed his potential prior to the trade.
I don't think Rangers eat Macharthur and Ryan's full contracts only to move up 5 spots tbh, unless they move up five spots and get something else significant as well, so instead OTT gets 2 Top 40 Picks + a D prospect Yegor Rykov
Also, OTT as a budget team needs to open $$$ for EK next season.
See Brassard for Zib trade
OTT gave NYR a 2nd round pick to pay Brass $2mil in bonuses. Gotta wonder what they'd give to get rid of an over $39.3 Mil obligation to two players who aren't worth it for them...
Namestnikov provides the perfect Utilitt player for ARI sad he could be their 2C or 1LW if need be. Kills penalties, scores at a decent pace, and is a Hockey IQ player.
ARI only drops 5 picks, but acquire #9 overall and a 2nd rounder next draft which will for sure be top 40 and maybe even top 35.
ARI
2018 1st round pick (NYR)
2019 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Rights to Vlad Namestnikov
Rights to Tyler Wall(G)
Brouwer doesn't need to go that badly that Calgary would only take a bottom end 3rd round pick. Especially with Fox thrown in. I think that Fox should never be used to get rid of a contract, the consensus is that he will be a strong NHL D man, obviously that remains to be seen but if Calgary is going to move him then I think that it will be to acquire an asset and fill a hole as opposed to getting rid of a bad contract. If we can tolerate one more year of Brouwer the buyout process becomes pretty simple and with a new coach hopefully he will see a little more press box time,
Don't know why fans keep on repeating past history about Arizona and the cap floor nonsense. They are about 8m short with 6 played to sign, they certainly won't have any trouble going about the cap floor. But what is real history is Arizona takes on LTIR contract or retired players to up their cap hit. That's a big drop in this draft from 5th to 9th especially if Tzachuk might be sitting at 5. Vegas would gladly LTIR Clarkson if cap floor was an issue. Same with MacArthur. He's on an insured contract, so he isn't costing the Sens money or cap, so the Sens aren't moving down because of MacArthur. Maybe Ryan though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Macgarthur isnt costing them in cap space, but they still are paying him $4.65 mil annually as he is owed right? Although your insured contract point does sound familiar...
The point I was trying to make was moreso OTT cutting actual cost + salary cap because of their budgeted circumstances.
On your # 5 pick point.
So in this scenario, and most, MTL takes Tkachuk at #3 because he's a center(also why I got Zadina at 4), so ARI would be choosing from Boqvist, Bouchard, Hughes, Wahlstrom, Kotkaniemi, etc. if they didn't trade the pick.

Thanks for your comment!
There might be very few contracts that are not fully insured in the league. Clowe of NJ was just 80% insured Horton's when he was signed by Columbus had his completed uninsured. Leafs traded Clarkson who playing at the time and took Horton just to say cap space. Horton will cost the Leafs 27.5m out of pocket when it's finished into two years. The only real disadvantage of an LTIR player and it doesn't happen in all cases, it MAY affect a teams ability WHEN they pay their performance bonuses. That's it.
You're right it is an interesting scenario for the # 3 or the Tzachuk selection. Phoenix picking at # 5 might like a quasi hometown boy, Tzachuk....if it means anything. Anyway we'll know if 15 years who made the right selection.
