Standard ELC so I'm not sure how you could vote No lol. Should see a full year in the AHL, but with a strong camp maybe he gets a few games in the NHL....just a taste to understand what the NHL level is really like.

is his contract actually up overseas or does this have the usual clause where it's either the NHL or overseas?

European players can start in the AHL immediately if they're drafted from European clubs (see: Timothy Liljegren playing for the Toronto Marlies this year after having just been drafted). Vaakanainen might get loaned back to his old team, but he's not barred from playing in the AHL.

Dragon pretty much summed it up, but the plan as of right now is for Vaak to come play NA hockey next year.

yeah i know that man. But some players (like Sandstrom for the Flyers) have overseas out clauses to where if they don't make the NHL they go back overseas instead of to the AHL. Was just wondering if that was in his contract or if he actually plans to play in the AHL.

your guess is as good as mine on that. internet schmucks like you and me know nothing about these players' intentions outside of what's reported in the news. but it's reasonable to assume, as a first guess, that whatever happens, whether he plays in the AHL or doesn't crack the NHL roster and decides to go back to Finland, is for the best of the player's development.
