Habs Again - FLA / CAL / EDM Trades

Created by: RoadRunner72
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 13, 2018
Published: Jun. 13, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The key here is an overwhelming offer to Florida to snag their top center prospect. Edmonton & Calgary trades move some present-day skill for future balance on the Habs. I think all the teams are winners, short or long-term. Habs won't score much next year with this line-up, maybe another top-10 pick ??

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Borgström, Henrik
  2. 2018 1st round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Habs give away #3 overall pick (likely Zadina) and rights to RFA Pacioretty (Florida negotiates a 5-year extension with him within a few weeks after July 1). Florida does not want to let Borgstrom go, but this package is too promising for the next 5 years window when their current stars are in their prime and under contract. Patch and Zadina combine for 40-50+ extra goals next year.
FLA
  1. Pacioretty, Max
  2. 2018 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Habs acquire highly regarded centre prospect (possible future #1C) and #15 overall in 2018 draft. Draft Rasmus Sandin as puck moving left-side D-man at #15.
2.
MTL
  1. Brodie, TJ
Additional Details:
Flames trade from a position of depth, to acquire some help on the right side and support current stars.
CGY
  1. Scherbak, Nikita
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Habs may regret letting Scherbak go as he starts to reach potential, but left defense is a more immediate need for them. Pitch in a 2nd round pick to sweeten the pot for Calgary, and so they have something to keep busy with for the first 2 days of the 2018 draft.
3.
MTL
  1. 2018 1st round pick (EDM)
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Habs are looking to the future with another high draft pick this year, take Veleno for future forward/centre depth at #10. For some reason they can't get what they want out of Chucky (expectations were too high) and it's time to move on.
EDM
  1. Galchenyuk, Alex
Additional Details:
Oilers need proven secondary scoring beyond the McDavid line ASAP. Drafting a defenseman at #10 in 2018 doesn't help them for a few years.
4.
MTL
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Retain a bit of salary if needed. Isles need defensive depth.

Finally someone gets it, thank you. If Habs fans what Borgstrom and 15 OA for Patches they HAVE to give up the 3 OA. That’s the only way Tallon would part with Borgstrom and his 1st. Plain and simple, no arguments to be made.

Oilers don’t make this trade. Galchenyuk isn’t worth a 1 and a second

Thanks for the feedback. Need some pain and risk on both sides of the deal. I wonder if Bergevin has the nerve to try an offer like this - usually when he swings for a home run it ends up a single/double.

You may be right. But he's a big upgrade on most of their current wingers...

Nuge plays wing with Connor now. Galchenyuk is not an upgrade on him

I guess I'm wondering who's going to help Draisatl on the wings, as well as McDavid. Galchenyuk is only 24, and has typically better scoring stats than Nuge over past 3-4 years while playing on a pretty flawed team. I would think a guy who immediately becomes the #3 scorer on the Oilers (after McDavid/Draisatl) should easily be worth a #10 pick and one in the #35-45 range. By the way I'm more of an Oilers fan last 2-3 years than a Habs fan (I've lived in Alberta 20 years now), so I'm just trying to understand what would be an "upgrade" at a reasonable price for the Oilers. Draft picks for a guy like Galchenyuk seems a lot smarter than expensive free agents...

Would you pay a first and a second for a second line winger? Think about that. Galchenyuk has not proven anything yet and he’s 24. I would much rather pay a free agent for 3-4 years then give up a 10OA prospect that will be a good player for many years to come. Now if your talking about Galchenyuk for a late 1st round. That makes more sense

wow funny how fans perceptions are.... I wouldnt trade galchenyuk for those 2 picks.. no way.. he is a young former 30 goal scorer who got 50 points last year on a bad team and he is still young.....keep your picks that might not even develop into NHLers.... I wouldn't make that florida trade either... not even close
