Getting the Captain's buddies

Description
I feel like each trade is fair value except maybe Zucc. Not sure on his value with one year left on a rebuilding team.

In a year, we should resign Staal and Pacioretty with the money from Bouw/Gunnarson/Zucc leaving. Let Kyrou take a top 9 spot.

My goodness, that's a lot to give up for Staal. Where do you think mgmt is with bringing back Stasny, term and $? I keep hearing he is too inconsistent to give much term and $.....

You need to give to get. I am sure they are open to it, but if we get Stastny back then we need to get some top flight wingers. Stastny did not help this team get over the hump. He performed better in WPG when he had better wingers

This is way too much youth lost for my liking. I'm fine with trading from our prospect pool, but I think it makes more sense to target guys (like we did with Schenn) that fit into the same age range as our core. Patches and Zucc are on the fringe and Staal at 34 would regress hard if we were to re-sign him.

It is and it isn't. I kept Thomas, Kyrou, Husso, Sanford, Dunn. I understand the hesitancy of trading for Staal due to age, but I see us having a 2-3 year window here with Tarasenko, Schenn, Schwartz and Petro all locked up to reasonable salaries. Maybe instead of trading for patches and Zucc, we trade for one elite winger? Or maybe the package to get Staal is too much?

Definitely smart to keep Thomas, Kyrou, Dunn, and Husso - and Thompson and Kostin and the firsts are great trade pieces if we're going to upgrade. I guess what concerns me is also losing Foley, Barby and Walman. Rather be able to keep those guys as reinforcements, so I guess it's just one trade too many for me. Instead of going for Zucc maybe we could find a free agent for the short term top-9, or hope that Barbashev breaks out into a bigger role. And yeah, might be too much for Staal, but at his contract and production, he's definitely a nice add for a contender.

Far and away the most terrifying top 6 in the league if this all went through. Would split up Pacioretty and Tarasenko though.

Schwartz / Tavares / Tarasenko
Pacioretty / Staal / Schenn

Of the deals, the Zuccarello deal looks like a maybe from NYR. Might be a yes since he's only got a year left on current contract.

The Patches deal could get derailed if another team comes to the table offering a better "now" roster player. It's a good value package in my opinion.

To me, losing Foley and Barby isn't a big deal. They will likely at best be 3rd liners. Walman is harder to give up because I feel like he could become a lesser version of Dunn. That's fair though. We could sign Grabner/Nash (x2)/Neal instead of trading for Zucc. Staal just seems like he would fit like a glove with this team.
