Really well thought out roster. Very reasonable trades.

Zero veteran right wings in the starting lineup could turn into more of a liability than just starting with two and letting four kids battle for two spots in training camp. A lot more.

Trading a first round pick for Kevin Shattenkirk got the Caps one playoff goal in two rounds. The Oilers' pick will be about ten spots higher, and they'll have to pay Shattenkirk a lot more money to disappoint them. Don't play yourself.

Arizona is not dropping back for Ryan Strome let alone a cap dump on top of that

Yeah Shattenkirk let it be known, That he has no desire to play in Canada period. He's not leaving the Rangers for the Oilers. I can see him with another Eastern Conference club. Before i see him heading for Edmonton.

If (and it's a BIG IF) Arizona felt that they really liked a player they knew would be available at 10th overall, I could see that first trade working. As it stands there's a pretty big drop-off from 5 to 10, so maybe it would be more enticing to the Yotes if Edmonton sent their high 2018 2nd instead of their 2019.

You are way off base, they aren't moving back to acquire Strome and Kassian they are moving back to pick they player they want while getting additional assets in return for doing so. I am liking the way that ARI trade works out. Arizona is likely looking for a forward probably a center if they are moving back, they likely have a shot at Veleno, Hayton, Kotkaniemi and an outside shot at Wahlstrom all of which are going to need time in the minors. The Oilers need a Dman that can develop quick and slot in to the line up in 2 years or less, Dobson, Hughes, or Boqvist i think all have that ability. Kassian and Strome provide a little bit of NHL vet experience to the forward group on a team sorely lacking it and keeps them under their apparent internal cap of $65M.

I would have to agree with you on the Shatt trade, the guy wants to be close to home.

If they think they can move back and still get a player they like, they can get infinitely better offers than Strome.

The worse reason ever to make a trade "to unite brothers." Arizona declines. Shattenkirk isn't waiving for Oilers and why would the Oilers really want him. He. was the third best RHD with the Blues. Yes he be good on the PP which does have value but he's average at best rest of the time

Added Vanek for a veteran winger. I'm not sure how much he gets in free agency... He got 2 million last year, but he had a much better season this year. so maybe 2.75? Also, I don't believe that Shattenkirk is a great defenceman by any means. But he's sort of what Edmonton needs, a right side powerplay QB that can play second pairing minutes. We've got a big gap on the right side defence

Fair enough... I changed the trade a bit. Now Arizona gets 2 second rounders, Strome, and Kassian. You'd think they'd be open to dropping back to pick up a center in the draft. Aquiring 2 second rounders, a somewhat skilled guy that can play center or wing (Strome), and a tough guy with with speed (Kassian) might be enough. The main value is the second rounders, the 2018 pick is 40th overall.

He can only list 10 teams he can't be traded to. If the Rangers are going into a full rebuild they may be willing to part with him for the right package. But you're right, theres a strong chance Edmonton is one of those 10 teams. But who knows, maybe a couple American teams make the no trade list and Edmonton doesn't

Yeah. Vanek definitely helps. Solid add. But he really prefers to play left wing, yeah? So you've got Stewart and four rookies on the right side. I'm confident that Rattie and at least one other guy will stick this year. If the others don't, Edmonton should at least sign some cheap veteran RWs on two way deals, if not take on someone's salary dump RW, just to have two guys who can steady the right side of the ship if all the kids struggle together.

I agree that the Oilers could use a power play right defenseman. And I agree that the Rangers would be happy to trade you Kevin Shattenkirk for that package. Really, really happy.

Changed the trade. Now Arizona gets th 2018 2nd (40th Overall), and the 2019 2nd, plus Strome and Kassian

I would assume Arizona plans on taking Boqvist, and they are lucky he isn’t expected to go in the top 4
