13 months younger is hardly worth mentioning and just comparing the raw numbers side by side Domi will be cheaper because he isn't as good... in regards to potiental there is no point to argue, both kids have their full careers ahead of them, once that is over we can argue who was better in future years. We've seen this type of deal before, in that, Bergevin has had his hand forced to trade Chucky because of the coach not wanting him. That said I am a fan of Domi but Galchenyuk is a better scorer in a league where goals are the premium.
I should add that I hope Domi scores 25 or 30 next year and Weber plays a full year for the Habs, its been bad deal after bad deal for Bergevin

Domi 16 goals vs Galchenyuk's 8 goals Oops

Man, anything Bergevin's does is automatically considered as a bad move.
Who remember him moving Plekanec before the playoffs... Or even trading Morrow for a 4th and getting Reilly (improvement) for a 5th...

Eating your words now eh?

Man, another terrible move by the worst GM of the league by far!!! The only trade worst than that is Subban for Weber. I'm sure if almost all Habs fans could trade anyone in their franchise, it'd be Bergevin. He probably wants his team in the bottom of the table for some years. And he must achieve his goal. Poor Habs fans...

You should probably keep your mouth shut from now on.

This is a bad trade ... Bergevin needs to at least get a few other assets back instead of 1-1 trades ... if he grabbed a draft pick (2nd or a 3rd) + Domi I'd be happier. Both are good players but Glachenyuk has a higher ceiling and that should be balanced out in the trade. Same with Weber-Subban, where he should have at least grabbed an extra pick to compensate for one player entering his prime and the other leaving it at the time of the trade.

Domi is a good player, but he still doesn't answer our core needs - 2 top 6 centres and a puck moving left D. I feel like Domi can play centre, but will be a bit like Drouin in that role, can do it but is really better off on the wing and neither will match up well against true top centres on other teams.

Domi is not one of our top 6 centers. Galchenyuk is now a 3rd line winger..

Of Domi's 9 goals this year, 4 were empty netters.

Chayka for the W.

Okay. Let's iron this out. After a few days of chewing on it. I think it's a good trade for the Canadiens.

First. Watch this.. https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/video/the-chat-shaw--galchenyuk/t-277437414/c-56569203?q=shaw+galchenyuk

After seeing this last season. I knew Chucky was gone because he's clearly a narcissist.

Habs save $1.75 over the next few year. And still retain Domi's rights a RFA when it expires.
Domi and Chucky are both wingers that can play center.
Chucky has more flash. But lacks the awareness and dedication to defense.
Domi is a better 200 foot player.
Domi isn't a lazy primadonna.
Domi is probably a better teammate.

I say the western conference eats up Chucky at center and It won't be a case of the Canadiens not using him properly. And he will be finally label as a flawed, overpaid, one trick pony with flashes of promise.

Wow, someone knew what they were talking about.

It still wasn't a smart idea at the time, as it was risky for MTL. But as they say, hindsight is 20/20, and the risk paid off, needless to say.

It's easy to be cocky months after the trade...go to play your GM Mode to pretend you're a real GM.

this whole thing is absolutely pathetic. this site is run so well and provides so much and in turn it would be reasonable if the community would live up to this standard and not devolve into garbage like this.

Yep. Go ahead and read the comments about what was said to me when I said Montreal won this when the trade was made. This community is very bad.

You literally never said Domi was the better player. All you said was he was younger and cheaper. And now you're going around replying to everyone and acting like you had all the knowledge and foresight to predict that this trade was going to turn out in Montreal's favor.

"Domi is younger. Puts up the same points. Will be cheaper. Chucky has more wear and tear. how does he have better potential?" This pretty much says Domi is the better player

I do have the knowledge.

This is interesting, their both left wingers and both need a change of scenery, their both youngish, however if I was Arizona I'd add a second for Chucky but oh well. Domi is a fast but gritty winger and Chucky is a pure offensive power house with an awful defensive game. I like Domi a lot but more for the Pens and not for the Habs however Chucky was a media scrap goat. I'd say fair trade mainly because Chucky is a tad overrated but if I had to give a winner, it be Arizona. smile

Looks like this aged well. And it's not even the most lopsided guess out here. Geez.

You know it! I don't bother posting comments anymore. It's futility. Frankly, the whole hockey community (boards/sites/media) is aflame with fools trolls and ignorance. You have a better chance having rational respectful debate at Cabot Park with drunk Inuit.

p.s. I love how you're trashing literally everyone! bahahaa.. peace!
