Hard pass from Buffalo, I would have zero interest in trading Pu.

is there a prospect you think that would make it work? Not that Grub needs anymore selling, but he is a player that could make an immediate impact in Buffalo. Caps give up a good D prospect and all Buffalo has to do in return is drop back 15 spots in the 2nd and give up two younger assets. While Pu looks promising, he is having a very similar career progression as Eric Cornel, Baptiste, and Justin Bailey. Not that those guys are bad, but they aren't exactly untradeable as you make Pu out to be. Is there a player that would fit in instead of Pu?

Unfortunately for Caps fans, it does not matter what he "should" get. It's strictly market forces- and like it or not, he's going to make 8 million.

To be honest not really. I think the main issue is that Buffalo is set with Ulmark in net this year so giving up a prospect (who I really like) for what would be a back up goalie or at best a 1B given the teams commitment to Ulamrk just seems steep based on their needs.

It's supply and demand. There's limited supply of top pairing, right handed defensemen who can move the puck and have a great shot. Carlson is great you have to admit, so demand is very high. That will drive the price up. Also, teams tend to compare values. For example, OEL is going to resign in ARZ for 8 years at 8.25. Carlson will likely sign for a similar AAV and similar term.

again, i think ur right. but carlson is not incredible on D like other players in the 8m range. yeah he's good at offense but Hedman, Letang, OEL, Burns are all much better on D. he's really good but idk if he's a top 15 D man

All CF Sabre GM's think every prospect will be great. Guhle instead of Nelson, Baptiste (one of the fastest players in the Sabre system and had a scoring touch two years ago and lost it this year?) instead of Pu, I think Washington would really like Larsson (I am one of the few Sabre CF GM's who think hi is better than Girgensons, Wilson, CJ Smith, Nolan, Nylander in the current form and others. He wins nearly 55% of his face offs and ranked I think 23 among all NHL players who took more than 600 face offs he could be a good replacement for Beagle. I know it would be a deal breaker but I really want to keep this years 2nd. So pick among them drop the Florida 2nd and Siegenthaler, then tell me what you think.

i appreciate the detailed reply. What you said definitely makes sense. For the caps tho, I think if they are gonna give grubi up, they will probably want to get non-roster players or picks so as to balance out the team's contracts (being that the prospects wouldnt need new contracts for a little while). R you thinking something like Grub for Guhle, Baptiste, and Larsson?

Yes, I know many CF Sabre GM will rail against trading Guhle for anything except Crosby or McDavid, because he does have a decent ceiling, but I cannot send junk to get quality, I really would like to send Baptiste to Edmonton so he could play with McDavid again. and Larsson as I said could take Beagle spot right now. I agree Grubauer could be a great tandem with Ullmark, he has proven he can do it. I will tell you on this site Eli is a Caps fan but he is a great judge of talent if he signs off on this trade it is a good trade.
