Description

... and no one to spend it on :(

1. I,d love Tavares but I am not hopeful.
2. Statsny maybe but he'd more likely stick in Winnipeg and challenge for the Cup
3. Carlson is the top D FA available but he's a RD and thats one thing we don't need unless Weber's foot is in bad shape and he never returns to form
4. Bozak is at least a C but he's not a guy that is going to help this team a whole lot, he's a good 2-way guy but Habs need elite players and game breakers, we've got our complement of solid 2-way 3rd liners.
5. JVR maybe but he's another LW and that would work only if Pacioretty was traded
6. We could outbid just about anyone for Neal, Perron, Maroon, and Grabner but none are centres, one or 2 of them would make the team more competitive but not a contender and they'd be overpaid in that case
7. Maybe Jay Beagle is the answer ... but we'll probably just get Tommy Wingels ... sigh

The smart thing to do is to trade your assets like Patches, Petry etc for mostly high draft picks in this years draft since it is so deep. Suck like never before this year and pray that you get the 1OA in 2019 as it will be Jack Hughes your franchise centre that you so desperately need. But Bergevin won’t stand for that and will field a mediocre team.

I think you're right in your thoughts but I have to think that Bergevin has to be making aggressive offers for RNH and/or ROR... maybe something out of Ottawa, Duchene or Pageau. After the way last season went he has to be thinking its now or never if he wants to remain GM. I just hope for the teams sake he doesn't over commit to someone during free agency.

By outbidding everyone on Jack Johnson, Tommy Wingels, Derek Ryan and Calvin de Haan, and with Price being healthy, we should adequately compete for the 10th or 11th overall pick in 2019, exactly where we want to be

They gained about $1.8M in cap space with Galchenyuk for Domi trade, I really don't see why they felt the need to do that unless they are going to push for Tavares. They just signed Galchenyuk to $4.9M last year, so if they think Galchenyuk is $1.8M better than Domi than why make this trade unless you plan on taking advantage of that cap space.
