Even though Hoffman's value has plummeted during the past couple of weeks, I still think a second rounder is needed. Would love to see him in Flames though. He's really deadly.

I like it but I also think Hoffman will require a bit more. Don't forget other teams will be bidding also.

Hoffman trade is overpayment, even before the current debacle. The Detroit trade is nonsensical. Do people honestly believe they'd give away two primo grade "A" prospects for a (poor) lottery ticket that has a 35-40% chance of even making the NHL, in 3-4 years? Everyone wants Fox as a throw-in sweetener, because he's that good, and they must feel "he won't sign" because he's getting perhaps the best college education available in North America while continuing to develop his hockey skills? He has joined the Flame's Development Camps and shown ZERO sign he will not sign (just like Gaudreau did), either next Spring or the Spring after. If he hasn't signed by June 2020 THEN the Flames will be looking to trade his rights. Before then, unless you're offering a Top5OA 1st rounder, don't bother.

Hoffman trade is definitely not overpayment. You clearly haven't seen him play. Calgary has 0 players with his kind of offensive capabilities. Johnny is fast and technical bit his shot is not like Hoffmans. Argue as much as you want. I have no say to the Detroit trade, I addressed only tge Hoffman trade.

Shot and speed are about two of five things that are needed to be great. If Hoffman wasn't a great shot the Flames wouldn't be interested. And, back to you about knowing players. Bennett and Kylington are not chopped liver. Its overpayment, but since the Flames have excess D prospects there is a slight possibility they would consider this unbalanced trade offer. With what is going on in Ottawa right now, I'd think they would jump at something much less unless the police are able to prove Hoffman's GF story......

Well obviously shot is not the only thing Hoffman has, dear lord... Bennett was weak to begin with and hasn't shown any signs of improving so his value right now is very, very low.

I’d say Hoffman’s 200ft game is kind of weak, not unlike a lot of offence-first guys. As I said, I’m not tearing him down, but this idea that he walks on water because one aspect is elite, while the return players are not worth much because some aspect is weak isn’t fair or reasonable. Bennett was injured and missed his first full year. His actual first NHL year he scored 18 goals, then got shuttled to C with terrible wingers (Brouwer) and since has been shuffled around constantly. I agree Bennett’s ultimate potential is still in flux, so he may not be a good trade target this season because the views of him will vary dramatically.

Bennett is very fast, probably equal to Hoffman. He is very good defensively, great at face offs and comes to the fore in play-offs, being a top playoff performer. He also brings a lot of grit and is strong on the boards. I think we’ll see a big improvement this season points-wise.

That Detroit trade is absolutely asinine. Have no idea wtf the OP was thinking with that one.

Given Hoffman’s current situation, this suggestion is likely an overpayment. Bennett is pretty similar to Domi at this stage & Domi just returned Galchenyuk... take Kylington out of the equation and the trade looks more realistic.
