The caps should be able to get that deal with JUST Grubauer. Certainly could get a lot more if you're adding in Burakovsky.

Yes, with Grubauer they should be getting that. But adding Orpik's negative contract the value becomes lower. Burakovsky is stabilizing it. Maybe some altering needs to be done.

What should be added?

Did you watch the playoffs? https://starsandsticks.com/2018/06/16/washington-capitals-brooks-orpik-deserves-hand/

Orpik turned around three key games with his OFFENSE alone. He posted the 15th most hits all time. He tied Erik Karlsson's career total of playoff game winning goals with a one-timer from the slot in game two of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Orpik alone is worth MDC right now, because they are equally enigmatic. Orpik is 37, set to earn 4.5M, and coming off of a playoff performance in which he lost part of a finger, got his hand injured in another way he hasn't disclosed, eliminated Columbus with two points, scored a game winning goal to tie the series, set up the tying goal in game five--the second to last goal of the season--on a one-touch keep-in, to give his team a chance, and then closed out the year with a 2:22 shift to hold a one goal lead against six attackers. If he weren't 37 and if he weren't Orpik, you could trade him for a mid first round pick, right now, the same as either of those other guys.

But he is.... so he's worth someone else who might or might not be worth that. Like someone who has no NHL points and whose offensive totals have declined across each of the last four years, from 95, to 80, to 41, to 24. Someone who clearly has game breaking skill, but leaves you wondering whether he'll ever use it again. Someone like Michael Dal Colle. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=145014

Edit: in answer to your question of what to add: take out Burakovsky. Trade Burakovsky to Philly for Vecchione and Hagg (it's @DirtyDangles' proposal, but comes from a conversation we had together about each team's strengths and weaknesses, and wastes of talent in the press box). Give that Kempny cap hit to Hagg for as long as he'll take. Send Vecchione to Hershey where he, MDC, and Johansen lead the Bears back to the playoffs, and everbody develops a lot.

From this:
Pelech, A
Dal Colle, M
2019 2nd round pick (CGY)
2018 3rd round pick (NYI)
NYI
Orpik, B.
Burakovsky, A.
Additional Details: RFA Phillip Grubauer

in case things get confusing in the editing process.

Thanks for pretty much taking the roles of me and the person I asked about this. You should be the one owning this GM. tears of joy

I'd give you 5 stars, but sadly, I can't rate comments in here.

I think that your 4 pieces coming back from the NYI is not far off at all. Grubauer RFA rights, Orpik (no retention, big negative), and Burakovsky (salary and injury history negatives, future potential positive, slight positive overall). For.... Solid D prospect, probable bottom 6 forward, 2nd and 3rd. Rather even.
